The new Branchburg

Fucking assholes are too cowardly to call them what they are.

It's funny...they handed out "Welcome to Branchburg" bags...more like "Welcome, now GTFO!"

Yeah, timing could have been better. However, by being officially assigned to Branchburg, there may be some financial benefits to those that are separated. Can't say anymore, but they played it smart and based on what I heard, in the best interest of the employees. Take it for what its worth, but that is my opinion and I'm pretty sure I'm on the dreaded "list" so have a stake in the game. We need to remember that it's just business and this will help meet the $2.5B reductions promised to Wall Street. Don't have any comforting words and I'm not defending the LT - everyone has their marching orders from Ken all the way down and you can either be a total dick and not care about the people or you can recognize the impact to everyone and do whatever you can to help those that are leaving. Pretty sure its the latter. Buckle up, its gonna be a tough ride next week. Best of luck to all and for those of us that are affected, remember that there is life after Merck and the market is not bad. Recommend you poke around on job sites etc and see for yourself. Will make you feel better in the event you are also on the list.

You know what? I'm sick and tired of hearing about Wall Street and about how "vital it is for Merck to survive as a company" while watching friends get canned. Years of this wears you down.

I'm exhausted from us always running scared and I can tell you that I'm barely working at this point. My manager is getting all hyped over this new tech he wants us to look at and I'm thinking "screw that. If I'm not laid off, I'll think about looking at it after next week".

In a way, I hope I get eliminated. Maybe it will be like the end of an abusive relationship.

Plus, there are assholes and projects I wouldn't mind never having to worry about again.....

It's tiring but quite honestly, happening all over the place and in other industries. I speak to friends in different lines of work going through the same garbage.

I just find it funny, with the limited amount of resources that will likely remain after next week, the amount of work that needs to get done. All of this while there are crocodiles swimming the waters ready to snatch the work leftover (e.g. other hubs, outsourcing providers, etc…)

All the best everyone..

Rich, is that you? How's the HOG running?

Just about everybody I talk to has this attitude. The idea of doing anything for the company went out the window ages ago. Everybody is just putting in time.

I laugh when they have events to generate ideas - the only ideas anybody is going to come up with are those which just make the workplace more endurable. If somebody actually had an idea that could change the industry and make the company a lot of money they would probably seek work elsewhere first.
