We have jobs , but for how long? This is an industry wide problem. What do you think the access is going to be next month? Are offices going to open up the door and say , "come right in" NO, who will we detail with the stupid mask on 6 feet away? No one will accept hand outs, who will shake hands, take food that has been manhandled and who knows where its been or who has sneezed or spit on it? Or sign for samples w the infected pen ? or will they be sent by mail?
If all we do is a few Zoom presentations, why do they need us? Why not use a call center in another state?
And yes people have died, so why will they take the risk and let a pharma rep with samples (which may be infected too by the box packer or handler) who may have encountered someone else with Corona in another office?
so I expect primary care, cardiology, hospitals and the ICU and CCU will be open for business as usual for reps May 1, 2020 w no restrictions which will be nice.

Real (positive) changes in access will only be achieved with advances in therapeutics to significantly minimize risk of death and hospitalization, and ultimately a vaccine and widespread testing and temperature taking, social distancing, wearing masks and no touching. My opinion in late Nov or Dec is assuming there will be some therapeutic advances over the next 90 days, and a waning of disease case progression. Realistically a vaccine development and substantial rollout is 18 months away. All Reps will need a “ dog tag”to prove they are current on their shots. Just my opinion. There will be a dedicated person in all practices to check dog tags of salespeople in real time which will be mandated by the feds and states as well as hosp and office administrators

This is a typical post from a stellar Esperion hire. I think the term is "all-star". With these kinds of reps ready to stumble , bumble, and fumble in offices how can we not have an awesome launch. I guess those pesky bottom 20% in rankings in their last jobs are really planning out for Esperion. What a team!!!
 


it won’t be the pharma executives that choose to eliminate the sales force. That decision will be made for them when reps are made irrelevant due to policy changes at the call points across the board. It has been a 15-20 year slow drip towards this end anyway with access drying up, Sunshine Act, ACA, etc. The COVID19 just accelerated the inevitable for 95% of the sales force as we knew it.
$$ will be spent on managed care and rebates. Sales force way way way too expensive
 






This industry has changed dramatically in last 5-10 years . The huge footprints are gone. The days of having 5 reps calling on the same doctor in a week did nothing but roll back access. Managed care and hospital purchase of practices has made limited access. 20 years ago you could move around a hospital. Then that was cutoff and hospital reps took to seeing them in their offices or hanging out in cafeteria to talk with them or in doctor parking lots. I've had doctors complain to me that reps would show up at their kids soccer games or bump into them at grocery store etc after they followed them from their house. Now a pandemic that will insure these office managers who hate reps limit or cutoff access and implement all kinds of hoops and guidelines to jump through. Look for contract jobs to increase and telemarketing via computer for samples . Doctors watch a 15 second promo on drug to sign for samples. These offices will survive without feeding the staff. Look for 50% reduction in reps for 2020-21. Did we really think this would go for years? In 1985 yes . The industry doesen't need a bunch of managers either or 8 VP's to handle a few brands.
 


It was just announced that on a moving forward basis all FP, IM, and CD offices in the United States of America will open up to sales reps with open arms and unfettered access starting April 20. A week after on April 27th all hospitals and ICU and CCU Depts will also open up nationally on a moving forward basis for breakfasts lunches and or dinners for them and their sales representatives
This is good news.
