Thoughts on working here

Just offered a job. Any thoughts on future? Any insight on culture? Many thanks!
Perhaps the culture has improved now that some key players are gone - the Area Director for the West (a whacko) fired last year, the VP of Sales (despised by most!) fired earlier this year, and the CEO (unpopular) recently fired. However, just know that the company has a history of placing reps on plans and firing them. Keryx loves to pressure reps and loves the PIP instrument of intimidation. They prefer the stick to the carrot as a motivational tool. Nowhere was that more evident that in the West where the turnover, especially in southern California, was high. Last year, three reps in the same region were fired on the same day and none of them had been with the company for more than a year. Hopefully the culture will improve, but don't count on it.

And another one gone, and another one gone.......

Meanwhile in Boston promotions to those without experience and living 2000 miles away from the home office is becoming the norm. Feels like Greg never left.

You'd be crazy to take a job in SCal. The turnover is insane The last two people to leave didn't even bother to let the manager know. What does that say about the culture in that Region?

How does someone get promoted to sr training manager with no prior experience and then a couple months later get promoted to ass director? This will probably get deleted again. I’ll keep posting until I get a response.

Im praying this isn’t the case w/ Akba. Tired of the nepotism. Promoting your buddies isn’t a good business model. You mean to tell me keryx couldn’t find anyone in Boston to be in marketing. Instead we pay to fly someone in each week and spend a couple grand to put them up. Thank god greg is gone this crap has got to stop.

It will not end until the Genz Renal party is broken up. The shareholders need to take a closer look at the ROI from these people.

It will definitely be the case with Akebia.. It was /is also the case at Relypsa, which has turned into a disaster in 2018. Genzyme and Amgen... Big pharma with unlimited resources to start up doesn't work.. All that matters is a buyout.

Sadly, seems to be the case for all the recent renal startups. Take a look at Opko, Ex Amgen mgmt. Mgmt by fear and intimidation. 2 week PIPs . At least 20 reps gone in 2018, quit or fired. New sales director a nightmare. Then add on the SEC charges to the pile of stress. Is there any good pharma company left that treats their salesforce fairly and has realistic expectations?

Oh, you're referring to Kirk, Opko Renal's egomaniacal VP of Sales. Yes, he took a page TC's playbook. Blaming the sales force for poor sales results and widespread application of PIPs really are the best ways to motivate! Enjoy your 6-figure base and perks while they last. The beatings will continue until morale improves.:(
