NEW YORK (AP) -- A unit of Johnson & Johnson has recalled 70,000 syringes of its antipsychotic drug Invega Sustenna after finding that some of the pre-filled syringes may have cracks which possibly could affect the drug's sterility.

Janssen, a unit of Johnson & Johnson, said in a letter to pharmacists and health care providers Friday that the voluntary recall affects lots of its 234-milligram-strength injections. The crack is completely covered by the label and is not detectable by the user.

The company said in the letter posted on its website that there have been no reports of adverse effects or infection since the product launched and no reports of leakage associated with cracked syringe barrels. No other strengths of the drug or products marketed by Janssen are affected.

Invega was approved in December 2006 to treat schizophrenia. The drug is related to Risperdal, a former blockbuster antipsychotic that lost patent protection in 2008. Janssen markets Invega in the United States for New Brunswick, N.J.-based J&J. Janssen said the recall impacts most available inventory of the 234-mg strength drug, but it expects to resume shipping product in early March and returning to normal levels of product availability in April.

This is the latest recall for Johnson & Johnson, which in the past year has recalled millions of bottles of children's Tylenol and other pain relievers and cold medicines for children and adults, as well as some 1 Day Acuvue contact lenses sold abroad. The company has been conducting reviews at its manufacturing sites.

Is anyone keeping count - how many recalls does this make?

You get to hit "reset" after Valentine's Day. So this is the first. Any recall in the past doesn't count any more.

Keep in mind, it's about time Willy gets his bonus so they'll be able to say he went "led J&J through a whole day without a recall, as a result, he's been awarded a $75million cash bonus, 6 trillion options at a strike price of .14, and an interest free loan that will allow him to buy the entire West Coast of Florida."

Slick Willy isn't keeping count, he's only counting his money. Many of us are counting not only the number of recalls but also the numder of legal hold notices for all sorts of alleged misconduct durin his tenure as CEO of this once great corporation. He can hide all he wants behind decentralization, but in the end he is the one in charge and therefore is accountable. But for him to be accountable would require the BOD to actually do their job. That alone would be a miracle.

The only thing worth counting now is the number of days left before this wretched excuse for a leader is "retired". His performance as CEO is the worst in JNJ history. Whole classes will be taught at b-schools on the destruction of JNJ's reputation to say nothing of the disaster that is the pipeline and horrible impact on shareholder value that has occured under his "leadership".

I think it might be number 18 or 19 - I was trying to keep up, but lost count. Sorry.

You guys are missing one that never went public. Ethicon, Inc. released SecureStrap, a mesh tacker, and then recalled it three days later. That's right, it was on the market a mere 3 days and it was recalled.
