What is it like to work at Ranbaxy in the US?

I recently got a call about possibly interviewing at Ranbaxy. I've not worked for a foreign owned company previously and I was wondering if someone could shed some light on what it is like to work here? What if you are not of Indian nationality? I don't want to give too much away incase I do interview here to mess up my chances. I notice all upper mgmt are men?

I would suggest that during your interview you should speak candidly about this concern with some of the non-Indian people you interview with. Obviously there are cultural differences between Ranbaxy and a US company and you should be comfortable with your work environment. My experience has been largely positive.

I would also not rely on ANYTHING you see written in the cafe. 99% of the information here is fabricated or exaggerated by disgruntled employees and employees of competitors. That is, except for what I am writing now.

Ranbaxy HR is trying to divert the attention by giving all excuses .The company is in crisis today with lot of investigation going on for the regulatory and operational reasons .Ranbaxy is full of dirty politics with senior managers exploiting employees .The main drawback is that tehre is no quality concerns and its full of bias , exploitation , politics , back biting .Lots of risk dear .Please weigh the options before you join Ranbaxy

Clearly another message from a disgruntled employee in India. This board is full of those messages. Go on your interview and then make up you mind after speaking to current US employees.

Actually, holiday's and vacation are better here than in most American companies. Because there are so many holiday's in India, the US must have an equal number of days off. So Ranbaxy US ends up closing down the week of Dec 25th to Jan 1st, and taking days off like arbor day and flag day. Slight exaggeration, but you get the point.

The company itself is pretty admirable: it was a small player and dreamt to spread all over the world including the US; and they did it quite well. But the guys who set it up and had thye vision and maturity have been sidelined. The new management has not been able to get any growth going and is struggling. If you dont have other options and are the steady type, go look at them. They should turn around in 2-3 years.

Dont know what level you would be working at - if it is anything substantial, make sure your manager is of local origin. The working style of this company's Indian expats is suffocating. No offense to Indians as such and Ranbaxy's management - they are great guys to socialize with - very warm and all and are very intelligent, but this company's expats still have miles to go in their softer skills and before they can work comfortably with Americans. I dont have experience with other Indian companies and dont know if it holds true for all of them.

I don't necessarily agree with all of the above. I did not know the early US management that well, but I have been impressed with the "new" team which has been assembled the last 18 months or so. I agree that Indians are very blunt though. They don't protect your feelings the way american managers do. If you are not doing a good job at something, they'll tell you flat out. And if you're the type of person who needs to be constantly reassured that you're doing a good job, probably not the right culture for you. But if you're smart and work hard, you should have no problems.

It is one of the best companies i ever worked. The work is highly scientific and a result oriented company.
Many pharma companies are too jealous because of their growth in the US market.
many companies are recalling their medicines due to their failure in market. This is a common situation even in brands.

Well ,there is no growth of Ranbaxy in last 2 years in US market. They did
very well between 2001 to 2005 but after that it is stagnant. The company is facing supply issues as well as FDA non compliance issues.

True but the company is well positioned for 2009 and 2010 based on recent deal announcements and generic pipeline. They have time to fix manufacturing issues and I assume Orchid collaboration will help with manufacturing.

Believe it or not this is true
Manjeet Bindra the most fraud person and his team in QC are falsifying the lab reports and venkat krishnan already damaged the OHM Labs in USA. Very soon this plant also will be shutdown by FDA.

This is a blatant lie. Now if they were claiming this were say NovoNordisk, then it would be true. You are expected to work during the shut down at Ranbaxy. You do not get comp days if you have to come in on weekends.

Decisions, in general are made backwards in that the outcome is decided, and then they work backwards to get to it. This is like what leads to fudging of documents.

I will state that I left the company two years ago, so I am biased, but I know a current employee, who feels the same way, and when they leave, they will likley be posting to this board as well.

Submit an application through InVentiv Health. If you know anyone that works for them, be sure to name them as a referral so your buddy can get a nice little bonus if you get hired. Be aware that Ranbaxy's hiring requirements are very stringent right now, so experience is a must. Truth is, there are so many reps out there, pharma companies can afford to be picky.

Depending on what department you are trying to get a job in this is a direct lie. Some department do not at all get off during the week of Dec 25th to Jan 1st. Regulatory is a fine example of this, so if you interview and they tell you that you get that week off, know now it is a lie.
