what is wrong with the hiring process at medimmune?

Why does medimmune have tons of positions on their website that have been open for months and months? For interns, postdocs, entry level jobs...How can there not be qualified candidates for these?
Why do they not interview (at least on the phone) people the have the experience, education, and expertise that perfectly conincides with the job description on the web? I have several friends who work there, and I really want to get on at this company because of the recommendations, but I can't get noticed. Isn't the employee referral process supposed to help this out? Is there some problem with HR at medimmune? Are the postings online fake? Is there anyone on here with experience in the company that can address these issues?

The impression they make on candidates is such a shame.
 
I found this board and wanted to post a similar comment, having just accepted a position elsewhere. Here's what happened in my case... First, I was contacted last year to be telephone screened, next told congratulations again for making the cut and sent an application which I competed and that backed up everything that was relayed via their initial online career app (including my resume). Then, nothing. Ten weeks went by and I received invites from 2 companies, went through several rounds of interviews and received offers from both. No word from Medi. Ignorance is bliss I guess when they don't know who they pass up or that their hiring practices are so poor. HR needs to get its act together & glad I'm headed to a solid firm that respects potential employees.
 
Had the fon screen, followed by face to face. 3weeks later DM calls "good news, I'm moving you to the next round". Weirdo...can't find abtime to commit to a meet, then give me ultimatum. Bye bye...afraid of the sinking ship mentality.

Consider your self lucky. This is the most effed up place, and ALL HR does is apparently support management's visious tactics with targeted firings, PIPs, and delivering bad news to employees who come seeking fairness. They have no time for hiring or supporting managers in the hiring process. They are always busy. Doing what? Hmm, they are not involved in benefits--they now tell you call AZ. They do not care if job descriptions are not current or inconsistent and their attempt to say they have done a salary survey--- laughable. They even have employees who make more than their managers. They can't tell you if job titles are equivalent either, should you want to transfer. They don't provide the services normal HRs perform. Exit interviews are also seemingly tossed in the trash as they never follow up. Salary ranges--closely guarded secret--and they never want you to reach the the mid range either. Don't expect support if you are relocating from HR.

By the way, most people leave because there are many inexperienced managers who just want you to put in 12 hours days so they can achieve their objectives. Career counseling or even caring--non-existent.
We have so many people here without the experience to perform their jobs. Nepotism hiring and promotions--alive and well and supported by HR.

This place is run like the Gestapo and I have heard employee after employee say they are the lousiest non supportive HR they have ever had the displeasure to deal with. You must deal with the equally incompetant Right Thing company if you want to be considered. Would you believe there is a message on the closed circuit TV playing everyday about the big bonus you will earn if you refer an employee? Just try collecting it. A candidate cannot even get through or even followed up should a low level interviewer call back. Should be enough to scare off any accomplished professional. I know of prospective candidates who are shocked at the way they were treated. I would never refer anyone to this company. Oh--if you are from the UK--your in--they love UK managers to supervise employees in the US. That way there is no accountability. People come and go as they please in many departments.

AZ needs to fire the lot of them.

Half of Medimmune is Chinese...corruption? nepotism? hmm? NOOOO. can't be when the PIs are Chinese, the staff are CHinese HR is Chinese....no nepotism here, uh nuh!

Based on what I've read on this BB, when it comes to the EEO survey via the online employment application, one should check the box stating that they're unwilling to disclose their ethnicity. Better yet, state they're chinese so the chinese mafia (i.e. Medi HR) that run this place, will select you to move forward in the interview process.
 
Obviously they cannot not keep the QA staff because they are required to lie and cover up to the FDA. I have seen people fired during a FDA audit. No ethical person would work there. I have seen some jobs open for five years. No joke.
 
Believe me you are better off not getting a job at MedImmune.
Things look very Rosy from the outside - but once you are employed - you will want to leave as soon as possible ( this is why there are so many vacancies - people are leaving left,right and centre)
As quoted by previous people HR are completely useless, and do not support the employee.
Because the remaining staff and managers are under so much pressure and stress - Micromanagement, bullying and harassment are absolutely rife.
This was the most awful place I have ever worked in, and I have worked with many brilliant pharma organisiations.
If you values and Integrity - this is not the place for you.
Even the most stable people have been driven to despair by this company.
