When did Genzyme jump the shark?

What a great question. From an employee standpoint there are several events I can think of Genzyme jumping the shark. In the Cambridge offices we had happy hour in the 1400 building.Everbody was there.Henri use to make company wide announcements there. It was the best .They stopped it back in the mid 90's b/c of the liability.

How about when the HR department got bigger than 3 people. When corporate moved out of Kendall Square, when research moved from KSQ to Framingham, when Henri use to be a walk around CEO,ectThe manufacturing snafu was long after GENZ jumped ship.

GENZ use to place were you had fun working and they did not have to pay you to work but now they could not pay you enough to work there. It is a shame but it must be part of becoming a successful company.Sad.I have fond memories. In fact my son told me recently that the reeason he became a scientist was because he saw how much fun I had doing my job.The funny thing is that he works in the old Genzyme building in 1400 Kendall Square.I guess all good things come to end.
I feel for my colleauges that are still there. It is like watching someone die while they are in Hospice.I wish they would euthanize the patient

For me, Genzyme jumped the shark when my mother died after Seprafilm was used on her during routine surgery and her gastrointestinal tract completely stuck together. Before that, I had never heard of Genzyme or Seprafilm. Neither had she, for that matter. Her surgery wasn't intended for adhesion prevention, Seprafilm was used as an afterthought..."Hey, let's take care of these adhesions while we have her opened. This stuff is completely safe, it says so in the ads and labeling. There are no concerns about allergic reactions. If there were, they would tell us" ... And then, after her reaction, the doctors had no idea what to do or how to treat her because there was absolutely no information provided from Genzyme for dealing with this. You can imagine my surprise when I saw all of the similar reactions on the FDA medical device adverse reaction database and my disbelief that this stuff is allowed to continue to be marketed without any warnings against allergies despite these reactions... It makes you wonder what's going on in Washington... And Genzyme really jumped the shark when they didn't report my mother's death to the FDA. But the thing that really bothers me is that there is a sales rep out there that knows that this happened and he toed the company line and kept his mouth shut and, as a result, more people have reacted and the FDA continues to do nothing about this. That's really jumping the shark...right into hell. And, if you're not reading this with the empathy that my family and I deserve, then you've jumped the shark too and you are right in there with everyone and everything that you hate about Genzyme. So shut up or step up.

and the hospital didn't report this as an ADR at the very least? you want me to believe that the surgeon would like to keep this incident to himself?

what a moron.....

The surgeon reported the reaction immediately, before she passed away. Genzyme did the same. What they didn't do was to follow through and report that she had died. The surgeon was not the moron. The moron is whoever conveniently dropped the ball at Genzyme and didn't follow through, something that I think is required to keep your PMA.

Around the time it decided to diversify away from rare diseases. Back then PGH was a cash cow to milk while the company became big in genetic testing, cancer, renal, endocrine, cardiovascular, biosurgery, transplant, etc. etc. ad absurdum. It accomplished none of those goals, and neglected its core business to the point of near self-destruction.
