Why did CSL go to the expense of Hizentra

I have a serious but dumb question. I am a marketing student.

Why did CSL go to the expense of developing Hizentra? They already had the most concentrated product and the difference from 16 to 20 isn't that significant. Talecris" Gamunex is still 10% and the about to be approved Baxter products are 10% too. There doesn't seem to be much of an advantage for patients.

Is it less expensive to manufacturer? Are they getting a higher price for it? Did they want to more the manufacturing from Germany to Bern?

Can someone help me understand the logic behind it??

Other than no refrigeration and 25% more concentrated, I don't see any real benefits or differentiation. I guess I was asked what are the business reasons . . . The minor differences don't seem to warrant the expense of developing and bringing a new drug to market.

Is the yield better, it is less expensive to manufacturer, was there a problem in the German plant?

I'm not s subQ user but I'm doing a paper for my marketing class.

Can anyone help?

I obviously know that what I read here is the opinion of sellers, and generally sellers are not the corporate line or even have the factual information. What I was looking for was your opinions, thoughts and guesses.

I am obviously not collecting corporate intel, I'm hopefully smarter than that. I just find the pharmaceutical industry fascinating and in the middle of a humongous change.
 


I am a patient who used both Viva and now Hizentra.
I'm also a head of sales/marketing in another industry.
Viva had higher levels of IgA and many patients could not tolerate it. It needed refrigeration.
It also required more needle 'sticks'
These are all reasons we prefer it to Viva. Also, fewer side effects.
Now, get patients hooked on this product @ 20% AND feeling much better and it becomes very difficult for a competitor to have a reason for patients to switch to another product
 




They are secretly working on yet another formulation that can be dialed in using an atuo-injector. Because you will be able to chose which way to go they are calling it Bizentra!!! Get it?
