Why does Novartis budge on tariffs before they are even announced?

Why is Novartis giving in so early? Does management think licking Trump's a...s will help. Is this in the best interest of shareholders and employees? Investing USD 23bn over 5 years mainly for manufacturing will make this company go down....

You're overreacting.
Duane still works for Novartis, right?
Did you see the magic he worked with their $9.5B lipid investment?
Just give him $23B more, sit back, and watch the genius at work.

Prob working out a deal.. Novartis will make it look like tariff plan is working and the government in return will continue to let them charge whatever exorbitant price they can in the US for their drugs. Given the US is the only country in the world that lets them, Novartis prob felt this was a fair trade off. Novartis is the company that was busted for bribing Michael Cohen for access to Trump in the first term. How can anyone be surprised. Hopefully at least it creates jobs.

MFN will put an end to crazy US prices. The industry and Novartis’ profit are built on the high US prices and the broken for profit system. There will hopefully be a reset very soon.

If Trump gets his way, Novartis could end up cutting another 10k+ jobs to preserve shareholder value. TfG 2.0 coming soon.

It's awesome, isn't it? We may finally give the Swiss and Germans and Danish a long overdue middle finger.

There is *NO8 rational basis for the USA to spend the most on drug research in the World, spend the most on drug development in the World, spend the most on drug charity in the World, and end up with American patients and insurers still paying the highest prices and / or highest total costs for drugs in the World. It no makey sensey. It's definitely not worth a few Americans being employed and overpaid to work at Pharma. But don't worry, only 95% of Americans agree.

Buh bye now

This. Why are we obligated to subsidize the world?
Novartis is reacting to the market. Equal tariffs are going to force companies to manufacture in this country to maintain margin. Why wouldn’t we want stricter oversight of the manufacturing process and the jobs and money to stay in this country?
The only reason I can think is those so committed to the “orange man bad” rhetoric they can’t see the actual issue. Both sides of the aisle should want Americans to keep jobs, money, and oversight of drug manufacturing.
