In the old days, Stryker reps could control entire states, make 1M + per year in commish, and work 3 days a week at most often living off sales of base items, and doing a little capital work here and there. It was a great time, but one that was not built to last. Corp. learned quickly that Reps with great relationships could move entire accounts to other companies when they moved, and that reps had grown to powerful. So the MDT world as a whole has been slowly moving to a Pharma model which obviously favors Corp. not the rep.
Recruiters will still talk about the old days as if it's the norm to get good candidates, and there a small number who still do great numbers. On the whole, as a wise poster already said, sales are sales. MDT was once a gold mine, now its mostly dry. You would be better served seeking other products to vend. The sales team concept makes it even a worse scenario. If it has to be explained why, you are already lost.
