Let’s talk about international and the joke it is now. It can be a joke or a house of horror with a bunch of friends at the top protecting each other... Turnover is high, we are losing great talent and HR is beyond horrible. No real results achieved in the past two years of fear, but the top guy has a good PR machine and when people start sniffing around, all attention goes to China for the great smoke and mirror show. The joke powerhouse!
 


Best post about international ever...albeit it may had been the first. Love the joke powerhouse name. Describes it perfectly.
All this so called strategy did was fire people or drive people mad so they would quit. All to ensure that the top dog can bring his friends and pay them way too much money to protect him. The overhead cost, including expenses, at the ILT and a level below has increased to absurd levels.
Anyone who speaks up against him, what is happening or simply has a different point of view will be treated specially...meaning be fired or kicked to the curb to quit... some will get fired with hush money to avoid having the US find out what is really happening. Looks like Brent does not care so you are stuck in this madness, or quit like me. Trust me it’s good to be out of this and work under a solid leader instead of these international leaders.

So True, without a decent regional structure international can’t function. Too complex to try running such diverse businesses.
So right about the so called business leaders, Brent doesn’t care & the international leadership are full of bullies who have all the excuses under the sun!
 


It’s been embarrassing watching from the sidelines what was such a great company continually spiraling out of control. Saddens me actually. Powerhouse? No leaders or visionaries left. True need for some real authentic inspirational leaders although I think it’s now too late. Pfizer will resurface, purchase at a discount, and strip away to salvage what is left. That was the original plan before I chose to leave and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it come to fruition.
 


so TRUE! International is ruled by bullies. If you disagree with their gimmicks which they call strategy, you become an outcast. How many country managers have been fired or resigned in the last 1.5 years? Level below? How many talented colleagues have left? Well, the answer is: too many! And all for similar reasons: couldn’t stand the current regime. We have not had any growth.. just what we got from zeltiq. And why is zeltiq tanking in international while the US is doing well. Because of what the boss in charge wanted to do without having any knowledge of the device market... his stubbornness has costed us a lot and now he pressures everyone to sell as if what he has done can be easily fixed. He totally messed up the incentive scheme, did not listen to people who knew devices and coolsculpting, pissed off the Pleasanton colleagues breaking down the collaboration, etc....
The other funny thing is the engagement survey. Has he or any ilt member ever discussed the results with the larger team? Nope... I guess many of us were too vocal for them to be brave enough to share.
The real sad thing is that nobody in the US cares about International so these bullies will keep on doing what they do best: bully and deliver lacklustre results.
If I hadn’t been around for so many years, I’d be out of here... right now I’m just hoping a company with real international presence comes into play.

I agree with most of what’s been written here, actually with almost everything.
It is truly sad to see what International has become in the past two years. I joined Allergan just before the Actavis merger and it was a great place, even with all the changes that took place. It was a respectful and thriving group. It has changed for the worse in the last couple of years. The environment became toxic and the fear is visible.
The man in charge terminated everyone and brought in his cronies... most are horrible with a few exceptions. The global functions that were supposed to be independent - namely HR and Finance - are totally controlled by him, specially HR. Don’t ever speak with HR here as it is not trustworthy and is the biggest gossiper. Badmouths everyone behind their backs, no confidentiality whatsoever. Trust me on this one.
Good news is that I found something else, so sayonara Allergan.

Good point. A decent regional structure is what is needed, not centralization in Marlow. We need strong regions and global (one, not us and ism) marketing. Imagine how much money could be saved... where are the smart people to see this opportunity?
 




Bill just stop receiving bad behaviours from Marc and friends and do something. But Bill is afraid of Marc because Marc is protected of Brent. Bill should do what Takeda did... get Marc another job and after this fire his bad friends. The behavior not accepted in Japan is not to be acept in other countrys.
 


The one size fits all approach is choking the life out of International.
This great IRISH company being sucked dry by NJ.
Global Departments are even more useless, people with no idea how matrix countries work are out of their depth.
Be Bold Brent, release International and let them go back to making their regional businesses flourish. Or Just quit!
 


Marc is not a bad guy, but surrounds himself with bullies.... maybe this makes him a bad guy too, but I think he’s not a bad one.
Allergan does not need him and the international structure which is sucking the countries dry. A simple regional structure will allow all countries to be successful again.... not to mention save a lot of money. We have double costs on all global functions with the global and international leaders, duplication of everything and nothing gets done other than yammer posts.
 


I don’t believe it is a matter of liking or disliking the leader. In my opinion, ther whole structure is flawed... we should either go with a truly global approach or international without regions.... too many costly layers now. I personally believe a global marketing approach would work; same for global functions. All the international structure seems to do is reinvent the wheel to justify their being here.
 


Other things to consider is that our current leader is autocratic and brazen, which makes matters more complex.
It’s disturbing to see many good leaders leave the company because they were not part of the click. Even more disturbing is to see how well they do - Camila, Raj, Janet, Luis, Annic, Chris, Stephanie, Sharon, Shirley, Christian, GP, Paul, and the list goes on.

Marlow is the international hq... sorry I meant to say centre of excellence. Didn’t you hear about the innovative reboot Marlow event? If you haven’t, just look for the one Janey Kettels had 2 years ago. They just copied that one and presented as their brilliant new idea. Joke powerhouse of horrors.
 


Oh this makes me so sad. Mostly because you are all so right...

...except one thing. The PR lead for international is exceptional, and just think how fun his job must be! The ideas that get landed on him to execute are ludicrous, yet he goes above and beyond to deliver quality - there is no option to query or question in the dictatorship.

Brent hated regional marketing, I seem to remember (pre-Actavis integration) his quote was something about “where bureaucracy lives and innovation goes to die” when asked about regional hubs. He saw a massive cost cut when he moved to Intl and US. Plus it means he doesn’t have to worry about that other little country called International which means he can continue kissing babies or US aesthetic customers.

MP is the least inspirational “leader” that Allergan has seen (and there’s some competition there). He is brutal, nothing more than a bully, has put the fear of god into people, and therefore when he barks an order 200 people start running around trying to implement something that then he gets pissed off that everyone is doing differently. He’s creating chaos! He thinks everything is so simple, tells us all how we’re doing it wrong, but has never led by example - he has surprisingly few amazing examples from his history of blinding success to share with anyone. It’s all pointing out where things are being done wrong and belittling people. It must be horrible to live like that - but on his salary I’m sure he’s fine (because he doesn’t have a soul).

The institutional knowledge that has been lost from Allergan international is overwhelming. The only old players left are tied up in retention bonuses, and battered down so hard that their confidence to get up and do something different is rock bottom. There is more to life than Allergan.

All the humanity has been sucked out of Allergan international and it’s a very miserable place. They’re not allowed to be nostalgic, but occasionally the rebels still mention “the good old days”, just quietly to themselves, as nothing from the past holds any value anymore.

The countdown to MPs retirement cannot go quick enough.
 




agree, MM in PR is a great guy. The new one I don’t trust... he is controlled by MP and is friends with MP and KCV so he can’t be good. They brought him in.

MP is not a “leader”. He’s just a boss who manages by fear and creates total chaos. International is going nowhere under him. We did not meet 2018 revenue goals and growth was minimal. This proves this joke strategy does not work. It’s just a show so investors can believe international will grow. Let’s just talk about digital, KAM, SAM and this way we don’t get into trouble with him.... who cares about results...
And let’s all behave when IBE comes around. They dictate what we do and if we say anything to challenge them, ADL goes straight to MP and we get chastised. I have never felt so discouraged as I feel now. International will never fulfill its potential with this flawed strategy.

MP said he would be here for 2-3 years.... I hope he leaves now and takes his friends with him.

Someone here said over lunch that we should go to HR to complain and I almost choked on my food. KCV is worse than him. Arrogant, judgemental and not trustworthy. All she does is bring her friends for make believe projects. I still can’t believe what she said at the Dr. DeMaio meeting here. If she doesn’t believe in medical aesthetics and people wanting to look younger, and says that out loud, why is she here? Not to mention that whenever she is here, I feel like I’m inside the death star. She talks down to people and thinks she knows it all.

We are in trouble. MP will not leave and we will continue to pretend we are growing and things are ok. Nobody cares about International.
