Does anyone have any info on the Lifescan division of J&J?
Approx. what type of earnings do the reps make?
Is the compensation base + commissions or base + bonus?
Go to lifescan.com to see products and other info. I worked there for 11 years, been gone now 2. Still have many friends there. If you are interviewing for the "professional" side as opposed to the hospital business unit, that is a good thing. LifeScan just had a major expansion in order to reach more PCP's. The sales force has grown over the years, used to be only around 120 for a long time. Think it's up to around 300 now. Meters and strips are pretty much a commodity item, but I found this job more enjoyable than pharma because you have a tangible product to show offices. Many times you can get them to use the meter in the offices to test patients and it gives you a good reason to go back in. Competition is very high, and managed care is key. Meters are like drug, need to be on formulary. LifeScan has been the market leader off and on over the years. Upper management has seen many changes and backorders are very common. Becoming more like pharma in past few years, more account targeting, more big brother, more micromanagement. Overall, if you are currently in pharma, I think you'll enjoy this much more. Lot's of diabetes fairs, educations gigs, extra activities you'll need to be involved in. Competitors are Roche, Abbott, and Bayer. Some at J&J feel LifeScan is the where the losers go....I don't understand this, but you may hear this in the industry.
What area are you interviewing in? Base, depending on your experience, will probably be around 60K, commissions annually probably around 25-30K. (just ball park, when I was there it was lower, but I've heard it's better now). J&J is a great company to work for, great benefits etc. Good luck!
