Needed Refresh of Products

Not sure if M&A is on the table, but we are in desperate need of getting some adjunct products to bring us back into something of relevance.
There are several start-up out there that are ripe and we can combine them into a "new, refreshed" look. Plates and screws....Yawn. We need some niche things to keep the others out of the room. Stuff like nerve injury repair, small bone nails, CMC solutions, and possibly some would closure that is unique and can add to the case $$. ZB just spent big money on Paragon, so they will be focused on keeping/growing the Foot business. We can jump head first into UE/Hand and dominate once again.
Am I wrong?
 


You gotta be high. JNJ would rather put their money into T Bills than a slow growth segment that gets hammered on pricing year over year. DePuy Synthes is a dead (wo)man walking.

I do. If you look at the portfolio, it is the same ole stuff. We need an injection of door opener products to get our momentum back. What I mean by door openers, is something different and not knock offs of other stuff out there. Can you give specific examples? Maybe the top 10 acquisition targets as you see them.
 




Yep we are really going to knock the competition dead with our 700$+ plate cost increase in the sea of sameness …… it’s not like we are getting teeth kicked in by arthrex fibula nails , and Stryker citrilock and full ankle prosthesis comming out …..
 


Arthrex is a nimble and aggressive company that built a juggernaut through innovation and acquisition. Stryker has remained aggressive and makes J&J MT look punchy by comparison. With ZB and Stryker essentially exiting the spine market and the colossal failure of a merged Globus-NuVasive, J&J is too risk adverse to jump in and overpay for acquisitions. They passed on Wright Medical, Paragon 28 and others which is a strong indication of risk appetite. CurvaFix could make a nice bolt-on niche line and many of their reps are selling on the side but only at a price that makes sense. J&J would need to go on a major acquisition spree to offset saturation, commoditization and price erosion in their core markets. With looming entitlement obligations owed to their aging sales force on the horizon, J&J is as likely to "ZimVie" their Med Tech division as they are to feed it with costly and risky acquisitions. Will be interesting to see what they do because staying the course is probably the worst option.
