I guess I should know better than to come to these boards and ask a serious question about selling Acthar gel, but I saw an opening on the west coast and thought I’d ask anyway.

For those of you selling Acthar gel, is there anything that you like about it, or working for Mallinckrodt in general? What are your thoughts on compensation, is it fair? What specifically don’t you like about the company, management and day to day operations?

I know that cost and coverage are issues, and would anticipate pushback based on the company history. But if you really needed a job, is it possible to make a gig like this work?

I’d love to hear the good, bad and ugly.

You could make it work for a year. But we are trying to sell against a generic that is accepted by most insurance companies. Acthar gel cost $9500 a vial, and ANI is $3500 a vial. Very hard to sell against a generic. If you are desperate for a job take it but don’t stop looking.

ANI hasn’t been that much of an issue in my territory. I’ve been with the company almost 3 years now. All companies have their issues but I’ve been treated pretty fair here. Just my $0.02

ANI's Purified Cortrophin Gel is not a generic, it is a branded drug with a broader range of approved indications than Acthar HP. The price difference definitely makes it challenging.

According to the FDA, Purified Cortrophin Gel is the Generic and the preferred Drug with the big insurance companies. Mallinckrodt just added a couple ingredients and says it’s different. Ask your Doctors what they think. Current poll is that it works exactly the same with more indications and is a fraction of the price. Mallinckrodt dropped the ball before ANI came to market. As always, we’re are reactive not proactive. Just don’t spew the Kool Aid, please.

Also, this is a drug that has been in the market for 70 YEARS! MNK will say there isn’t a generic in the Market but when you see ANI selling for $3500 and MNK AT $7000. This a pretty good indicator that ANI is the Generic version and is taking more share daily. This is exactly what happens when drugs go off patent and a generic comes out. Their fancy words for ACthar Gel is Hogwash. Ha

Purified Cortrophin Gel is actually not an ACTHAR generic. It is an NDA with patent protection until 2044, and is approved for some indications not covered by Acthar, like accute gouty arthritis. The price difference appears to make insurance companies treat it like a generic.

ANI has absolutely zero data to support any efficacy claims. And the drug interaction with aspirin listed in the PI is not a good look, not to mention the “irreversible side effects” also mentioned. Sure, it’s a cheap alternative. Sure, insurance companies would prefer it to a more expensive product. But when you’re trying to treat patients with refractory diseases I’d imagine you’d like to give them the best treatment possible, one that at least has safety and efficacy data to support it.

Too bad insurance companies and doctors don’t take Feelings into consideration. They will go with the generic of the time especially saving a huge amount of money in the process.

What drug doesn’t compete against a generic? I’ve never sold in any space where I wasn’t competing against generics, or a cheaper competitor. It’s literally our job to pull this through.

But hey, this job isn’t for everyone. There’s no shame in taking on an easier gig

Thank you for finally admitting that ANI is a Generic. See that wasn’t hard.

Cortrophin Gel is NOT a generic - Acthar reps tells this lie to anyone that would listen. It’s ACTH with same MOA … but without Mallinckrodt’s bad reputation - the medical community hasn’t forgotten the bad history of Acthar … just accept the fact that there’s more than one product in this class and stay respectful. Not a generic and yes cheaper.

If you believe in this “generic” talk you are drinking the koolaide - acthar doesn’t have data either. Yes acthar was promoted first but acthar’s prices have gone up several times raised the price to extortionists heights. Doctors and insurance companies know this - while Cortrophim gel is not a generic and another ACTH choice - this is a good thing for patients and good for doctors. Mallinckrodt has not been a reputable company - which led to their 2 bankruptcies. ANI is very compliant and doing the right thing since their inception as a company.
