Bye Bye DEI

IF WE are smart, we would follow this direction as well.
Funny how “DEI” becomes “over-the-top” only when the playing field is no longer tilted in one direction.

For centuries, the majority didn’t build success on merit; they built it on control. They built empires on the unpaid labor of the enslaved, the stolen lands of Indigenous people, the exploitation of immigrants, and the silencing of women who were denied the right to vote, own property, or even open a bank account without a husband’s signature.

Every system: economic, political, academic & even religious was designed to preserve their dominance while squeezing profit and labor from everyone else.

Now that DEI initiatives attempted to make us One America for All, that feels like a threat to you. Not because Equal Opportunity is unfair, but because for the first time your opportunity is no longer exclusive.

Let’s be clear: DEI isn’t “lowering the bar.” It’s removing the gate.

If your success depends on the gate being closed to everyone else then YOU Were Never The Most Qualified. You Were Just The MOST Protected!

You say "majority" and "control" as if every individual white person trying to make it is somehow complicit or responsible. There are poor white people who don't experience the empire or privilege and nepotism you whine about. Are you really going to hold a 35 year old responsible for shit that Romans and British and French empires did?

And guess what despite the warm and fuzzy tag lines and slogans attached to DEI, the actual content and speakers can be hyper divisive and counter productive, biased and heavy handed or extreme, all based on how it is implemented and by whom. Many have agendas and the whole think stinks of politics and political correctness; it isn't the DEI concept, it is the way it is applied (for example, "open discussions" actually cannot tolerate debate, it is actually communicated as right and wrong and indoctrination).

I voted for Harris and am a liberal
Civil Libertarian, but Lordy the victim mentality and virtue signaling makes me and other POC who just want opportunities without the handouts gag.

The only whining I hear is from you. Put on your adult pants, grow some thick skin, and work your ass off.

"One America"?

DEI is all about "label and divide", POC vs white, oppressor vs oppressed, rich vs poor, etc. There's nothing "one" about it mon frier. It doesn't bring people together, it split them apart.

Wrong. The bar was lowered so low, benefactors are stepping over it. Just look at the shape of the company. Not to mention, with a college graduation rate of 26% (vs 35% average) there are not nearly enough people of color with the qualifications to fill all these leadership roles, so they hop from one place to another to the highest bidder. Good for them on that, but please don't pretend that standards are not lowered in favor of diversity.

"Centuries" and "Empires"? You're really trying to connect some random individual 35 yo white dude who may have grown up poor with shit that happened under the Romans and British empires?

In America we don't hold people responsible for the crimes and injustices committed by their ancestors. That shit was supposed to stop when serfdom ended.

Dei is here to stay and very important to the overall success of business here at JNJ. Its not going anywhere, get used to it. This place has been heavy white male for way too long.

"Heavy white male for too long?"

Thank you for proving the point. It's one of history's most successful conglomerate organizations ever. Why fuck with it dopey? White males in business supported DEI because they received tax breaks for doing so. Watch how fast that changes.

From EMEA here. Did the U.S. remove the gate for Asians, Native Americans, Indians, Hispanics too? Or just one vocal minority group only. The US not only stole the land of Native Americans, they made them slaves, killed most of them, then forced the remaining ones to move thousands of miles from their homes, then completely ignored. This was way before the import of slaves from Africa and the Caribbean. If the US is going to do reparations, DEI, etc should Native Americans not be number one on the list? The U.S. Government did this.

How are reparations and DEI going to move people forward to assimilate and blend in. It does just the opposite, makes people stand away from everyone else rather than joining in. These other peoples are assimilating well into American society and love working hard to be rewarded with the American Dream. They are not asking for special treatment or special payments. They just want to participate and blend in and work hard for what they receive for their families. Get on the train or be left at the station.

The U.S. had an AA President so I think everyone there is equal now, right? Equal Merit translates to equal opportunity and rewards. Stop asking for special treatment and just work hard like everyone else. The US Government did not own any slaves, they fought and sacrificed hundreds of thousands of lives to end slavery. So why should reparations come from the US Government that fought slavery?

Sorry but even here in EMEA there is no huge pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Keep working hard. Successful minorities are not asking for DEI or reparations. US Whites will be in the minority in 10 years anyway. Should Whites then receive reparations & DEI special treatment? Companies like Kenvue are figuring out and deciding that DEI has zero value to the organization. JJ still has loads of money to waste on things like this. New JJ DEI lady no longer has DEI in her title. JJ still straddling the fence not trying to offend anyone. Don’t want protests at Corporate being shown on the news for stockholders, Doctors, and Patients to see.

If you're in the EMEA, you'll be eliminated in less than 1 yr. Your opinion matters not! STFU!

Can someone tell me what DEI looks like in the data management and IT? If everyone is from India and China, wouldn’t DEI be Lilly white, black, and Hispanic men and women?

Did we hit an Amercan nerve with the post. Your post is not very “inclusive” no? You Americans need to practice what you preach about respect & inclusion. So everyone in EMEA will be laid off, is that what you are saying? That is a lot of people. Does that include Beerse and Leiden and Cork?
