Car allowance

If they used any system like Motus they could write the car expense off as business reimbursement and it would not be taxed. So stupid. Unless there is some unknown benefit to doing it their way.

there’s a temporary tax law that trump enacted. It prevents mileage from being deductible. I believe it expires in 2023 or 2024

For sure the worst car allowance situation I have found, so instead of giving me a few hundred extra bucks a month for a car, they get to pay thousands in airline tickets for me to fly. Driving would put me way under on a decent car given the miles I would put on it. The only way to be fair to people in larger geographies is to pay mileage to all, but whatever…I’ll just get the airline points, too.

Its a great car allowance I get about $600 after taxes towards my car note on a brand new tesla. If you don't like it go work for Pfizer and drive a Chevy Equinox.

First of all, jackals, clearly you have zero clue what most other companies offer. $600 is the lowest that I’ve seen, but even the companies that pay that amount pay for mileage. You also clearly do not have near the size of territory that some of us do. I couldn’t possibly drive a Tesla given the lack of rapid charging stations. Even if there were, I would waste a ton of time on doing it. So, without paying mileage, that allowance doesn’t go as far given the decrease in value of a vehicle based on mileage.
Obviously the other perks make up for it, which is why I’m not a Pfizer. Still doesn’t make this car allowance a good one for those with large geographies or compared to other companies that pay allowances. It’s definitely less value than getting a company car at most specialty companies.

In every situation a company car is more economical vs. a car allowance. But then you drive some shit rep car. Our allowance is fine.

Shit rep car? Are you that shallow that your car defines you? It’s a car

You can drive a Ford Edge (ie. shitty rep car) or you can drive a brand new Escalade. I'll drive my escalade...you can try to get a job at Lilly and drive the Edge. We will see who makes more money and who helps more patients at the end of the day.

Bottom line 1: we lose money on the car, no matter what car is chosen.

Bottom line 2: the ego boost of driving one's own car and not a Ford Edge or Toyota Camry is not enough for the toxic workaholic environment here.

this place sucks

Gotta laugh....u think you a defined by a car you drive...either company car or personal car? Be glad if you get either. There are other industries that offer nothing

We are defined by many things in our live. Including physical looks, material things, personality and your beliefs to name a few.

We aren't talking about other industries that pay less we are talking about pharmaceutical sales. Everyone in our industry gets either a car or an allowance- I'll take the allowance every time.

and you lose money every time. nothing wrong with that, but you lose money for ego. it's ok little fella.

i had a great rep car at my last company. Our allowance is what it is, but the overall package IS worse than most other biotech companies - others pay higher allowance and/or pay mileage (beyond the cost of gas). If you don’t think so, then by all means, list a few that are worse than ours.

what that guy said!

My wife is an accountant and she broke it down and I am losing money every month on the car. I don't want to identify myself so won't say my states, but I drive about 3500 miles per month and she estimates I lose 375 a month vs the company car so about a 5 grand loss per year.
Shoot. I am not an accountant, butt I have been in this business for 20 years. You lose about 700 a month if you drive a new luxury brand car and about 550 if its a Japanese brand loaded. I still prefer to drive my car that I pick. I like large SUVS and loaded. I am sick of stripped down cars. It’s common sense that you lose, but totally worth it to me to love my car, since we live in it all week.

Ok, BH. As usual, you think you are the only one who knows anything. I drive a Jag F Pace. Love my SUV. I am upside down, but I don’t care. I prefer to drive a nice SUV that I love with no rules. I would rather drive an Edge than an Escalade.

The only car worse than a Jag is a range rover. Both scream mid life crisis. Best of luck

We get $1000 a month here before taxes. Thats pretty good as it compares to other companies and can easily cover a payment for a nice vehicle plus insurance. Having a gas card is even nicer as we don't need to worry about fuel costs. Not sure I would buy a Tesla though without mileage reimbursement.
