Divesting spine??

pro-disc worldwide gone! whats the play? divesting all of spine or clearing out pro-disc for another disc aquisition? none of the next gen discs available to sell for a while still so why now?

Agreed. Aesculap's lumbar disc is the only one on the market besides Prodisc L, but I doubt they'll try to acquire it. Wondering if guys are going to try to go independent to save their disc business?

[QUOTE="anonymous, post: 5926229"Just balancing the books to show profit back to the mother ship for 2017. Too far behind BP not to make this move. This my friends is a pure financial play.[/QUOTE]

No doubt. Typical J&J strategy. May appease the powers that be for the short term...but what next year?

Let's face it, we are losing business to competitors every day and much of the remaining business is dwindling with low prices squashing profit margins. This overall pattern is not sustainable with J&J for the long term. There will be more "adjustments" moving forward since I don't see this trend turning around.

Original poster here. I had heard a rumor of a big announcement a few days prior to the announcement of ProDisc being sold. To those of us in the field, this is just another disheartening sign that JNJ has zero confidence overall in Spine, nor in the long term opportunity to truly be a leader. Why should they though? What have we been given that's transformative to sell? What "new" technologies are we developing internally? Yea, we launched Verse.....not new, we launched Zero-P Natural after Synthes has this basically done 7 years ago. Synfix Evolution....not new. We bought Concorde Clear....lmao! Lift is 7 years late too.

Go over to the "8% pay" thread and read about all the same issues in trauma, and the prediction that spine will be rolled into the rest of the Depuy Synthes franchise with trauma, CMF, mitek and the likes. We will have RM's and VP's that care only about RONA and cost to serve, and they will continue to add variables like quintiles reps, make us pay for them and justify them with a gas card and a pos equinox as a plus for working here. When is the last time we truly engaged a new surgeon to develop a relationship? I believed in the idea 5 years ago when the merger was announced, but not any longer. Time to exit now....actually 2-3 years ago when we were all warned!

I can't imagine still being an RM at Synthes-Depuy anymore. Couldn't stomach having to put lipstick on that pig and sell it to my rep buddies with a straight face every day. Guys , don't worry there are still fun and exciting opportunities out there.

Boys, that sound you hear in the background is not the fat lady singing. It's JJG singing Sinatra's my way. If you can't hear it it will become clearer during 2018.

Gee, was it just 2 short years ago when he "took over" and he told us DS was not in need of a turnaround ?

So why screw with it like he has ?

Oh that's right, he's from that outside consulting firm that thinks they know everything.

One can only imagine the fear going through everyone's minds these days. The lies, the cover-ups, and ultimately the end. JJG was only the henchman, this dye was cast years ago. Good luck spinning this turd.

I completely agree. No trust left in this sales leadership team and it starts at the top. Travis Williams needs to be held responsible. We have lost great talent to our competitors while under his watch!

Speaking of "sales leadership"...is that giant bag of dog shit Linda Haas still around? Of course she is. She has no where to go.

she's just like the rest that are left( yes men). they just deliver the corporate line regardless of whether it is the right thing to do to people or not. all the real good people (mgmt and a lot of reps) with a backbone of respect for themselves left already. any of the good folks you could trust are gone. this company astounds me, every time you think they have finished cutting or doing crazy things to run people off, they find another stupid thing to do. I am now convinced it is by design. they want tenured folks gone, especially synthes folks. the only thing is they are taking tens of millions of dollars of business with them. great business plan....... oh what they could have done with any kind of vision and leadership.....

i truly feel sorry for all the good people left in this shit show. What the hell happened for it to get to this point. You are spot on in that they wanted all the Synthes reps gone. The millions upon millions lost, and the quality individuals who took it is beyond imaginable. Mission accomplished Depuy.

I couldn't agree more. The reason this sales management team have all become yes men is because they have seen what has happened to those that have stood up and voiced their opinions. They, as you stated, have been run off! Yes, they have also taken a lot of business with them due to their customer RELATIONSHIPS. Competitors have scooped up a ton of the talent DS has tossed to the curb due to their cost to serve model. Now it's all about RONA, cost to serve and their is nothing internally innovative taking place at all. Management is going to spin to us that no longer having ProDisc in our bags is a good thing?!? By the way...the Credo survey is a joke! Things continue to get worse, nothing improves and the Credo survey comments remain the same year after year. Of course they want tenured folks gone, because tenured employees do not fit into their cost to serve arithmetic.

Spine isn't going anywhere. Sure, sales are down across the board. Seems as though most of these posts, folks are forgetting about the Almighty profit margins which still remain high. Also, with deep pockets of JNJ, Spine doesn't HAVE to grow. Sitting in the position until major consolidation occurs, Hospitals crack down on the small companies due to various reasons, JnJ will see growth again in the spine division. Reps are coming back for their 22% commission potential, guarantees etc. Huge dollars are being invested in spine. They aren't shoring up the books to make a sale more appealing thats for sure.

Reps coming back to spine at JNJ? Nobody is coming back to be a spine rep at JNJ. They have lost so many great reps in the last several years and many of those left are finally starting to plan the exit. 22 percent possible commissions is laughable. Please for the sake of you own good, quit drinking from the company koolaid cup.
