Impending doom

Our stupid bitch DM in SO.Cal is still trying to drive us and make a name for herself. What a pathetic POS with absolutely no sense of the big picture or reality. She even wants us to keep booking MEI programs. Thats the best way to get fired by OEC with ZERO severence.
What a fkn douchetwat.

She's very smart. In fact, she stands to get laid off twice at once. She got laid off last go round and now its time once again. But to show her pure brilliance, she has volunteered to take on her DM job plus another, concurrently! Pure genius! Would that give her the distinct honor of being laid off three times?

Been through this twice. Word. Screw Abbott / Abbvie. Now it is all about you. Nothing else should matter at this point. Nothing. Corporate, boss, co-workers, customers all should be about #100 out of 100. Family, income and career are the focus. Forget medical or pharma. Reps are a dime a dozen and there are no jobs. Zero. Focus outside of the industry and network while you are employed. Getting work while you do not have a job is really, really difficult. You are viewed in completely different light when not working. Plus you are rattled and have no leverage. Keep grinding.

It really isn't doom. Diagnostic testing companies are looking for hard workers with relationships who know the lipid/cardio space. Liposcience, Atherotech are hiring. Boston Heart too, they pay well but big territories.

Any other companies that you know are hiring? Will lab companies hire you if you don't have prior experience selling lab services? I have only pharma experience.

IF you can find an atherotech or nmr rep, and IF they've actually stuck with the job more than a few months, they can tell you how little interest there is in independent lipid testing.

I feel bad for those not smart enough to have seen the writing on the wall or even in Cafepharma. The business is and has changed. It wont be long before more is spent DTC ads than on field sales reps. We are no better than the Text Book Sales man who have seen their business go away with the invention of the Ipad and e-books. Yes, there will be some field reps, but they will be working the larger health systems and doing contracting (see Future Fit). There will not be and is not a need for lunch delivering reps that get 30 seconds to puke out the standard line to a doctor or in most cases a non-interested nurse. For those of us that saw the end and made arrangements to pay off debt, put away as much as we can, and live well with-in our means, we will be ok. Those who havent, its not to late to start, there's nothing wrong with cutting back on your life style and paying cash, or not buying at all, mentality. It is a whole lot easier facing losing my job knowing I have no debt and if I had to I can find a job or 2 and make it on $60K a year and be happy. I see this as only a great opportunity to put my piorities in place and teach my childern what is important in life.

Nicely stated! Unfortunately, the pharmaceutical experience will not get us jobs in other industries. In todays market the vast majority of companies want 5 plus years of experience in their specific industry. Your relationships and friends are key to breaking into a new career. If you're age 26-32, GET OUT NOW! Trust me, it's not the easy money you believe. You're setting yourself and family up for a disaster in the very near future.

I feel for you if you have been in CC for just a few years and are in your 30s or early 40s, I have been in pharma for 27 years and at 53 I am waiting to get cut here, take severance whatever it may be, ride it out and retire and in 2 years collect pensions from 2 companies and start a new career in something that I love....401k will be there at 59 1/2 and ss at 62 so Pharma has been good to Me, would I do it again?? Not so sure....Good Luck to all...

It's specialty testing, and it pays well. It doesn't have to be a big mainstream market to have upside. Adoption is growing. Maybe if you want to sell in a high-demand and mature market, you can go sell the next me too statin. Have fun, that's why you'll always make pharma-type money. Well, maybe you won't, you'll probably not land another decent job.

Sorry if I rattled your cage. I wasn't attacking you personally. But the fact that as more physicians become affilliated with large medical group/hospital systems, the chances of an independent lab succeeding diminish. That's IF the physician buys into the advanced lipid testing theory that has yet to provide outcomes. If multi-billion-dollar pharma companies can't prove the benefit of additional therapies beyond statin, just what does a company like NMR or Atherotech expect to achieve? And labs in my part of the country are already adding ApoB and/or VLDL to the standard lipid panel.
I've worked with NMR and Atherotech reps since 2003, and here in the Midwest it's been a revolving door as they get tired of coming up against a brick wall of resistance, except for a few independent and boutique practices.
Look, if you believe you can make it work for you in your market, more power to you. Just make sure you go in with your eyes wide open. Talk to some of the doctors you call and trust. Ask them about their experiences with advanced lipid testing. Ask the companies how they propose to overcome the challenges I've laid out. If they spell out a coherent plan, and the job is right for you, go for it. I'm just another anonymous poster on CP sharing his opinion. Good luck to you.

If you think Abbvie is going to give a date on today's call, you are mistaken. Keep working on the double down folks. Everyone wants to know a date so bad when really, you don't want that date because by then it's over.

again ,you are a scumbag weasel ! your pot stirring threads dont scare real men , just the spineless cowards like yourself i bet you were the kid that got his ass kicked in school everyday you little wussy now go back under your rock

Take a chill pill, man. You sound incredibly stressed out. If you are angry at Daddy AbbVie you shouldn't take it out on your fellow workerbees. Take a deep breath.

Just saying they aren't going to give us a date, if you refuse to believe that then it's you who needs to crawl back under your rock. You were the kid that should've got his ass kicked everyday!

How would you know anything about school, obviously you never went. By the looks of your writing, you need to go back. Try to learn something this time rather than just spewing insults.

Fair post, and I agree. I've seen a good bit of turnover with these reps too, but most of it seems to be driven by stupid changes made by the "leaders" of these companies. Changing billing practices impacting patients, reduced territory sizes, changes/reductions to the incentive comp plans, etc. Some of the newer companies in this space have good science and pay very well, and they don't seem to be making the same mistakes as Atherotech and LipoScience.

There's lots of confusion among physicians as well. In recent years, several clinical trials of add-on therapies have disappointed. FIELD, ENHANCE, ACCORD, AIM-HIGH, and even some small Omega 3 studies have bombed. And even if it's accurate to say the wrong patients were studied, it sure doesn't instill confidence in doctors to add additional cost, pill load, and potential side effects to their lipid patients. Now, with so many lipid meds losing patent protection, the push to test the add-ons on the "right" participants is greatly diminished.
