First of all the SEC document is open to the public for viewing, and secondly, they did the same exact thing with Kos. Had they let go of any of us in the first year, the severance was very hefty. Kos, and I'm guessing Solvay, because unlike Abbott cared somewhat about their employees, negotiated sweet deals if we were let go in the first year. Why do you think Abbott shit canned their own and kept Kos reps??? As Kos reps left on their own in droves, Abbott went back to their own that they had cut and said, "Gee we now have a territory for you!" You may be right because severances are tax write offs for companies, and maybe they don't care, but Abbott has the cheapest severance packages I've seen in the last 2 years, and I wouldn't doubt it at all that that is what they are thinking.

solvay is ( was ) an international pharma company w real penetration in china and the indian sub-continent. That means more access to over 2.5 Billion folks. Established vendor relationships - establish distribution - the whole deal. Guess what Abt needed?

When, who or who about layoffs - unknown. Because of the managerial pedigree of those decision makers - look for a decision point trigger. When product volume, margin, profit, cost, or some mix of same comes together - the plan will execute.
Abt is a very well run company with its internals. What you see in spots of leadership, including upper management, is rife in all companies. There are good and bad leadership styles, profiles and execution. Its human nature. Looks like there is avoidance being practiced along side of transparency. It is interesting to watch as an investor.

Have you noticed that all the blather seems to be coming only from the Abbott reps - all times of the day when they could have been saving their overpaid jobs by making calls while NQ and Solvay seem to be going about their job and keeping Abbott afloat and using pristine English on their Posts which are far and few I might add !!!! Think about it.

The fact that upper mgt didn't address it at all means it is still coming.....we just don't know when. If layoffs were not coming, they would have said so. They couldn't because they still are.
This spells it out for anyone who is still kidding themselves. Mgmt knows that we have heard layoffs are coming. It has leaked from the lips of several of them. If they wanted to improve productivity in the field, they would address this concern ASAP. They now have a dilemma, not say anything and let productivity cont. to fall or become obvious liars when the truth is finally revealed. If the pending layoffs were not going to happen very soon, they would just lie and then could claim that something changed, ie profit not as expected, etc. This next layoff has still got to be fairly soon. Gotta believe they could still pull the trigger before the LV mtg.

Well you at least seem sensible and reasonable. But the reason there is hostility between Abbott and Solvay reps is the level of arrogance displayed by a good majority of the Solvay reps. If you look through some of the threads on CP, you will see for yourself some of the posts that Solvay reps make claiming they are the only ones making a profit for Abt and how they are more valuable than anyone and Abt would never lay them off. Those are the kind of ridiculous statements that causes tension amongst the sales forces. Just saying...
