Interested to hear honest feedback from employees on the Patterson Unites email you received yesterday. Specifically, how does it make you feel to know that despite everything needing attention today inside our company, leadership finds it important enough to send an all points bulletin with recommended reading / viewing lists complete with black queer trans and gender neutral businesses to support? It's not lost on anyone that PDCO is a pretty homogeneous vanilla group right up in the heartland of George Floyd, but is all this necessary or appropriate? Looking for candid discourse, not an attack. Thanks.

I don't work for PDCO, but my feedback is that if the email was the first of its kind, almost a month after George Floyd's murder, it was likeky made to address an internal complaint. Someone could be looking to stir up trouble.

While the timing may be off, at least they’re taking an initiative. Forgivable considering the extreme pressure that the pandemic has put us and our customers under.

Yes it is necessary and important. These important steps by major companies like Patterson can't keep being put on hold because some white people don't see the everyday problems happening for people that identify in these groups first hand so therefore it's not "necessary" to them. And why in the world would it not be "appropriate"? If anything it would not be appropriate to ignore the problems facing society today and how Patterson can be apart of doing the right thing right now.

If companies start hiring to fill their quota of race, LGBTQ and millennials - Production and profits will decline. If “Vanilla” is the most qualified, vanilla it should be.

I’m not vanilla but completely agree with that statement. It should not be quota, you hire the most qualified.

If you are only hiring "vanilla", then you aren't getting the most qualified. You are only getting the whitest men.

The question is, do the people that aren't "vanilla" feel a certain way knowing they were hired because the company wanted to be more diverse? Does that make them feel inferior? Or are they just happy to have a job? I want a basketball team that is full of people that know how to play basketball. It shouldn't matter if they are diverse, especially if being diverse makes them a worse basketball team.
