No go with AMGN


Every company is raising the cost of its Salesforce. 160-170k is the new 130k of the past. Facts. If you want good people you have to pay. Even fast food pays 50k a year to flip burgers.

Horizon still pays the industry leading salary + bonus. Which is why we attract and hire the best talent available.


I just want to share that the majority of us are not as arrogant or stupid as the above poster. Plenty of other companies are now paying what Horizon pays, especially on base. There’s a reason that we have had good people (performers) poached. Very few of the salesforce makes HUGE bonuses every single quarter, and those huge bonuses are going to be gone come January, as are the RSUs, etc. Horizon is far from the best of the best. Just like anywhere, there is a variety of talent. I have teammates whose stupidity blows my mind. The mediocre success that they have had is due to the fact that there is no other option for patients.
So, please don’t assume that we are all douchebags.
 






No layoffs or job structure changes for at least 1 year in GBU. May not be true for other business units. Support staff including marketing will see changes. IC total comp...not just target bonus not expected to change for 1 year.

NO ONE has promised any of that except no change in target bonus. You are clearly hearing what you want to hear. No change in base salary and TARGET bonus for a year (aka comp). NO COMPANY makes promises of no layoffs or that the total budget for IC and/or the structure will remain the same for a year, The only reason they are making the 12 month promise about base & target bonus is because ole Timmy got that put in the scheme agreement. Saying “we don’t expect, I believe” is Randy’s way of spinning shit. As far as comp goes, go ahead and ask Randy if Amgen has put in writing or even told him directly that there will be no change in structure and/or budget for IC or no layoffs. I have and the answer is NO. By all means, shoot him a text or give him a call to confirm.
If it were true, it would be sent out in writing just like the guarantee for target ic and base pay. Use some common sense. Sheesh.

You are wrong and obviously not in the know. And yes Randy confirmed on a call no change to sales force structure for rep/manager- anyone higher no guarantees. If you don't believe it is true you should start looking.

Unfortunately that poster is correct. Name 1 other company that is paying 170k+ base and 16k qtr at plan (forget about the 30-40k our best reps constantly pull). Then add in generous rsu grants every year.

Our best reps aren't being poached for higher paying gigs. The truth of the situation it is all going to come to screeching halt.

You overestimate how Amgen views everyone’s worth, and underestimate Amgen’s desire to cut costs. Not only did they pay a premium for Horizon and are continuing to lose revenue on Enbrel, but they also are well known for frequently restructuring to save money. They’ve already had 9 months to gather info and figure out how to cut costs. Horizon is overweight in sales, and neither Amgen or any other pharma company really value any experience marketing a certain product. Experience with one is just as good as experience with another. The increase in revenue with Tepezza and Krystexxa has come mostly from increasing the cost of the drugs, not from anything marketing or sales has done despite adding more people. Deerfield will be closed, and Amgen isn’t going to find somewhere new to house marketing, nor will they allow marketing to operate remotely. It won’t happen overnight, but it won’t take very long.

oh, and the grants are done just like the $30-40k a quarter opportunity is about to be - that’s why people are jumping ship for higher bases w/ better benes.

I was on the call. You are not listening carefully, honey. Again, send him an email and ask him if he’s PROMISING that there will be no layoffs for reps/managers for a year. The answer will be a big fat “no”. If you want to stay in your little world of delusions, then go for it.

Novartis was offering a high base...but mid 50s for target bonus. The other companies max 170k on base...and bonus back under 50k at plan. Genentech doesn't even bonus on sales anymore. And no top performers in the GBU has left. Not sure about other divisions.

Biogen does pay up to 211k...they came at me hard for rare disease account executive- but had to cover 4 states. My base here is 209k. Bonus at plan with Biogen was 48k. Doesn't come close to what we make here.

Salary range at regeneron for reps goes to 176k and for sales director only 240k. They don't pay very well I know because I came from there. I got over 20k more on my base to come here.
