Instead, I'll continue to rape Merck for its free money. I'll use Merck's RFM money to pay for the lunches, I'll drive Merck's car to every appointment and I'll do it all on Merck's time. I love being in business for myself and having someone else pay me free extra money and give me a car and expense account! Thank you, Merck!! That karma is a real bitch, huh?
This has been the best year of my life. I'm the happiest Merck rep on the planet. If my idiot coworkers had half a brain, they'd also be pulling in twice as much income and have a complete sense of job satisfaction. Instead, they miserably bitch and moan in their horrid existence. Dummies.
This is EXACTLY why I began the 15x15 movement a couple years ago. We need to ask ourselves "Are things better here now than they were a few years ago?" The answer to that is NO, things are not better, they are much worse. Here are just a few examples:
1. Paltry raises over the past few years. For many reps, their raises were BELOW 1%.
2. Reduced bonus
3. No more NMIP points.
4. Reduced cell phone reimbursements..
5. No more trips.
I saw this all coming and I'm sad to say it's finally here. Merck no longer cares about us. They haven't for years. I figured this out some time ago and decided that I no longer care about them either.
We are always being told to "run our business like it's out own". OK Merck, I will. If this was my business and my income was being reduced, I will no longer be spending all of my RFM money on lunches. I will find ways to keep most of it for myself to make up for the loss of income and those shitty raises.
I will reduce my "hours of operation" to match the reduced overhead investment that Merck is making in me. In short, I will drastically cut the hours that I spend in the field each week. If they reduce the bonus, NMIP points, and don't give decent COLA raises, it is clear they don't care about me and my family. Why should I care about them?
I will also be reducing my time on the phone talking with co workers, management and with conference calls. If they reduced our reimbursement for phones, they can't expect me to pay out of pocket for hours and hours of additional minutes per month.
Once you step back and see what they are doing to each one of us, it is very easy to make this progression towards the 15x15 lifestyle. I am WAY happier now than I was a few years ago. Heck, my manager even has hinted to me that he really doesn't care anymore either. He just wants us to make him look ok in the eyes of our DCO.
Hop on the 15x15 train and ENJOY. We are filling up fast but there are seats still available!
