I have double dipped for almost a year

In March of last year I took on another pharma job and had intentions of giving my notice to Amgen but then Covid hit, virtual calls etc. So I double dipped initially thinking it would just be 2 weeks or so. Then it led to one month and now it’s been almost a year. The W2 at Amgen combined with my new pharma company makes my total income 375k.

The IRS doesn’t care because technically it’s not illegal to have more than 1 W2. As long as they get paid they don’t care. Being in a virtual environment makes it super easy to double dip and am surprised more people are not doing this.

To OP not even mentioning the ethics of which you have none, having 2 W2s is very illegal if double check with your lawyer on this one. You can have a W2 and a 1099 but not 2 W2s. That is against the law genius!

You are 100% inaccurate. It is perfectly legal from a state and federal perspective to work at two different companies as a W2 employee at the same time. There is nothing in the labor or tax code that prohibits this. You may be in violation of your employee agreement if it states you may not have second job without permission from your currently employer, however this would not raise to level of criminal fraud and would be viewed as a civil matter.

From an ethics perspective I would caution you from judging people. Plenty of Americans are working two plus jobs to make ends meet, and having 'one good job' like that of a pharma rep may not be enough for some people's situation. You may see it as unethical, however the person doing it may be caring for their kids and elderly parents or whatever hardships befall them and they fell the best ethical choice is to maximize their income through two jobs.

STFU. You're a rep and an idiotic and uninformed lawyer, now? How do you explain someone that works two jobs, i.e. low wage workers working a job at two different companies? Luckily for you, this forum is anonymous because you're a moron.

I agree the federal government could care less how many jobs you have. I have had my Amgen job which I work maybe 2 hours per week max. My W2 is close to 175k as I’m in oncology and our access is zero. Let’s be honest! I also have a side business doing notary public meetings fir new mortgages and I do this full time. My OTE is over 270k. Again it’s nobody else’s business but my accountant and there is nothing illegal about doing this!

I call BS. That being said, it is a funny post.

You have nothing on me. I have been triple dipping.

I am in marketing. I haven't been promoted to Sr. yet, but that's my goal.

Anyway, when Covid hit and we got sent home, I decided to look around. I don't really like it in Conejo Future Apartments during the week, so I decided to get a second job. I got one almost immediately at Pickles Deli and I get 30 hours a week there. They said I can't get more because they don't want to pay for benefits. Doesn't matter because Amgen has decent medical. Once I realized how easy it was to get my "virtual" work done for Amgen and get my hours in at Pickles, I decided to look even further. I was lucky to get a custodial job at Newbury Park High School. I only get weekend hours, but it helps.

Bottom line, I am making more than enough to pay off my Hyundai and at least I am not a rep.

Are they hiring at Pickles? I can do delivery. If I'm asked about the constant stop and go driving on my tracker after 2 PM, I'll just say that I was making some late office calls.

I did it for a couple months and you're right it's definitely reasonable. I wish I would've just kept both jobs bc it's easy during COVID. The only problem is... when you get another job they can see you double dipped on your background check unless you leave one of the jobs off your job history.

Whether truth or fiction, false or honest, my thoughts are:

  • If you are in job where "double dipping", if known by Human Resource and Legal & Compliance, would immediately trigger action on behalf of AMGEN corporation; then you are in the dead wrong choice category.
  • If you rationalize your actions as you commit forms of fraud, deception and blatant theft of company time, potentially resources, etc., you are morally bankrupt as you "cash those checks".
  • And, lastly, if you simply want to emulate our corporate "leaders", you know them, you rave about them; then go ahead as they cheat in many ways, too!

Cheat away, the American way!

Tell your ministers and priests, family at the holidays, close friends and neighbors you double and triple dip! Amazingly, our Amgen team of professionals who's job it is includes 'policing' such egregious unethical and potentially, "criminal" behavior should be able to find this out, can't.

You mad bro? None of it is criminal so take that off the table. Stop with the “theft of company time” nonsense as we are exempt employees and have no set minimum or maximum hours. Lastly no one is going to be sympathetic to a drug company and their obscene profits of ‘lost employee hours’.

Catch me if you can...

I have sold Prolia for 3 years and an a full time W2 employee with a real biotech company so I have 2 W2s and have got the last 18 months. My 2020 income was over $380,000.

is what I’m doing illegal? No!!! There is nothing illegal in my state or federal government that says I cannot have more than 1 W2. As long as I pay my state and federal taxes they don’t care. Heck I could have 4 W2s. There is NOTHING ILLEGAL about this! Nothing!

Name the criminal code that I am breaking by having 2 W2s. Hint you can’t because it’s NOT illegal!

That's only about 75% of my total haul from Celgene for just going out and doing my job of getting new Otezla starts. Of course that's all over now and I'll be outta here once I'm sure I get paid my double bonus on March 19th.

This place blows. Lowest pay and IC I've ever seen.

And lowest to no'est annual merit raises...

OP i would check with an attorney - having more than 1 W2 is very illegal. It will catch up the tax authority’s eyes and you have a LOT of explaining to do. You can legally have a 1099 doing real estate or selling shit on Amazon but having 2 payroll checks will land you in hot legal water. Why risk it? Don’t you think the IRS knows you are getting 2 W2s or your state tax board? I mean the stupidity of Amgen reps never ceases to amaze me!

It is not illegal in any state or under any federal tax statute to have two full time jobs with two W2s. That's close to the stupidest thing I've ever seen here on CP.
