Roger Bone (J&J Pharma)

Roger Bone was the head of the FDA Endocrine/Metabolic Advisory Committee in the 1990's. He knows ALL the players in the agency. He doesn't need R&D experience. He knows how to push the right buttons. He will grease the tracks to approval for anything you have coming up. I'm not J&J, but I'm jealous. This is HUGE, believwe me.

Right, Roger Bone, MD was the head of the FDA Endocrine/Metabolic Advisory Committee.
This thread is about Roger Bone, Ph.D.

Sounds right.
I met few times with Barry Springer.
He is Roger's buddy and he made VP.
He is quite nice guy, but not very knowledgeable or accomplished.
In a competitive culture, like one in Merck, he would not even make associate.

He makes me wonder if he is simply not a bright guy. .... He strikes me as being an old drunk.

I saw Rodger pushing ahead completely useless programs.
One drug was for molecular target not expressed in the organ of interest.
He is not stupid, but he is acting out of self interest only.
Often, he makes huge negative impacts.
Many of his reports are plain stupid and it makes Roger a star.

Any comments on Roger?

I have the strong impression that his direct reports don't trust him and are focusing on spoon-feeding him the "right" information to get the decisions they want. Of course people are jostling for cushy management positions in the newly created structures, and a good deal of whispering and back-stabbing seems to be going on. This can hardly be beneficial to the ability of King Roger and his Court to make intelligent decisions, such as it is.

But it is absolutely beyond belief that any person with any R&D credentials at all, would make some of the statements RB has been offering in his recent presentations to the company.

I've been in R&D in JJPRD for almost 18 years. Roger Bone has no R&D credibility yet the upper management doesn't seem to get it! The ship is sinking. Get out while you still can!

Do you R&D elite ever plan on launching a new drug? ...or are you just going to keep talking about it. What ever happened to Dapoxitine? ...wasn't that your anti-ejaculation medication?

In my time in J&J, I have been part, albeit a small part, of an R&D organization that produced several highly successful new drugs. I am proud of that achievement, and of being able to say that more is still in the pipeline.

But when I compare the organization that was capable of doing that, with the organization that J&J and RB are imposing on us know, I have to agree... Get out while you still can. It's hard to say what it takes, but it is easy to see when you no longer have it.
