Takeda Currently Going Through Layoffs

Takeda announced in May that it would layoff approximately 1,600 employees in the US. An article, found here, stated that around 1,400 of the lost positions would come from the sales force. The Takeda message board on cafepharma.com has been active with reps discussing the calls which have apparently gone out today.

The layoffs were in part necessitated by the entry of generic competition for the company's blockbuster, Prevacid, for GERD. At one time Prevacid sales were more than $3 billion annually. Sales for fiscal 2009 were 1.2 billion, a 30% decrease from the previous fiscal year.
