Wondering if anyone has heard of any people leaving EP to go to Bionsense Webster or Depuy Synthes? It seems like a no brainer, the Biosense guys get paid a lot and the Synthes guys get paid even more. Why aren't more EP people going over? Is it frowned upon? I would like to give it a try but don't want to be blackballed if I ask my DM.....

Any thoughts or experiences please welcomed

you will get black balled if you ask so good call there.

The move is seen as a lateral move and both those places have low base salaries like 50-60 so Ethicon base is higher and people will not move unless it's for a DM job

As with most things in corporate america it starts with your manager. What type of relationship do you have with your manager? If it is a good one, then proceed. The next step is the most important one - answering the question to why do you want to leave. Is is to make more money? That probably will not fly. How long have you done your current job? 5 plus years? If so you might want to position this as an opportunity to grow in another area of medical sales. The bottom line is that people do move, but you have to careful of how you position the request.

I was very lucky and to the transition and am a very rare exception to the rule. Unfortunately the reality is that many managers and directors frown upon this. This holds especially at the rep level, where you will be considered a traitor. When you do ask almost all will say they support it but when it comes time to post for a position, be sure you have a really good shot of getting the job. If not, the poor managers/directors will hold it against you.

Funny you should ask this; I was just wondering the same thing myself not a week ago. I can understand that our SD's don't want to lose good reps, but can they not understand that EVERYONE wants to make more money?!! It basically boils down to willingness and commitment. I know they work weekends and nights but I am ok with that If I can make what many of them do. As far as the above poster who commented on base, I think you're way off "base". I speak with my local Synthes rep regularly and they don't make any base at all but I can tell you that they sure as hell make a ton of money.

good luck man there is not much chance that you will find any DM willing to help you move to another company to make more money.....if you are leaving to more up a pay grade that is a different story and more possible....but if you are trying to move rep to rep, no chance , BUT also think about possibility that Ethicon will carry and rep Synthes in the future....only a matter of time before Reps are expected to do both all while getting paid to do only one!

Ethicon reps can't even sell their own lines let alone be trusted & valued enough to sell hardware in actual cases... You must be dreaming!!!

"Hardware?" Why do u douchebags always say hardware. I'm embarrased for you

Because they are metal implants put in with actual instrumentation vs. the Ethicon reps boring, bothering, being useless & mindless in the ORs. You serve ZERO purpose for your clients besides the fact that you GET IN THE WAY.

Hardware = much more intelligence and money that you've ever had in your life.

hardware...lmao! I know I hear guys say that crap too all the time. I think it's because it sounds cool. Why would you call it hardware? Funny stuff!!

Itis so sad that we always end up in the "I'm a better and more important rep than you" or the hospital really needs the Synthes/Ethicon rep more game. get over yourselves.

There's ZERO value in you and your service when all you are doing is asking the general surgeon to fire a stapler or energy device. You sell sutures but can't even throw a single stitch? Does that even make sense?

It's called hardware because they are metal implants that are implanted with actual instruments vs the cheap plastic toys you sell...

then why not call them "implants?" I can think of several different terms but hardware would never be one. Are you trying to say you have value in the OR? I've been in about 50 cases in the last year with you guys. I'm not trying to be an ass but c'mon man we are all in the same boat when it comes to value

You guys are weird. I'm a Synthes Trauma rep in West and I read all our company boards because moving laterally from company to company is always encouraged. You want to be aggressive with your career you are at the right company. I know of multiple reps here at Synthes that came from other areas of JNJ. It's called ambition and it's a good thing. Network with other company reps via LinkedIn and the reps you see in your hospitals. Let them know you may want to move. Tell your manager. Why would they black ball you? Call corporate and get to know people in the chain and let them know you want to move. Nobody at Synthes makes a base anymore. That's the big leap. Can you go all commission. I know tons of trauma guys over 200k and some make 300k. All the other guys in other divisions are 150 to 200 spine/CMF/Mitek/recon. These are general averages. BW folks are blowing it up right now. 300-500k in take home pay in some cases. But that's almost a never open position. Stop being children. Ask your manager you want to switch companies. You work for a GLOBAL company morons.

☝️This. There are more Synthes reps making over 400k than there are Ethicon reps making over 200k. If you really want to make money and you don't mind nights/weekends like you stated then go ask your manager. Your bank account will thank you.

You are definitely 100% NOT in the same boat as we are... And the cases you are in with us you shouldn't be, LMAO. No value in ETH reps. Your products can be used without the ETH rep in the room for sure, as a matter of fact the nurses in the room do most of the job for you.

Haha. We stay in the cases long enough to ensure the product is being used properly and everyone is comfortable. Then, we take off and go hunt for new business. Unlike you guys that hang out with a handful of docs and and do nothing and somehow get paid to do that. How can you not grow but still get paid?! What a deal. Sign me up

You aren't fooling anyone with your value in the or. You guys absolutely do not offer anything to the case. I've seen in first hand and I have been in a ton of your cases. You may offer some assistance and I stress May to the scrub tech that isnt too familiar by using your laser pointy thing but even then I've seen the techs roll their eyes. You offer absolutely nothing to the doc but open a box of "hardware" (lmao I had to) regardless of what u think.

As a former Ethicon hernia rep let me say enjoy it while it lasts my friend..our old hernia team had years where $300k wouldn't even qualify you for the glamour trip (sales excellence, presidents club, winners circle, whatever you call it). Once we merged companies, the big JNJ put the kabosh on that

You just telling yourself and making yourself happy. And us hardware reps will keep pretending that we like you. LMAO
