No go with AMGN

Unfortunately a deal likely to be struck this week with FTC which opens pathway to deal closing. We won't be part of Amgen until December but its close to 100% done now. Sad times in Horizon history.

Sales & marketing will be safe, the rest of you should start looking!

You overestimate how Amgen views everyone’s worth, and underestimate Amgen’s desire to cut costs. Not only did they pay a premium for Horizon and are continuing to lose revenue on Enbrel, but they also are well known for frequently restructuring to save money. They’ve already had 9 months to gather info and figure out how to cut costs. Horizon is overweight in sales, and neither Amgen or any other pharma company really value any experience marketing a certain product. Experience with one is just as good as experience with another. The increase in revenue with Tepezza and Krystexxa has come mostly from increasing the cost of the drugs, not from anything marketing or sales has done despite adding more people. Deerfield will be closed, and Amgen isn’t going to find somewhere new to house marketing, nor will they allow marketing to operate remotely. It won’t happen overnight, but it won’t take very long.

anyone who has been around a while knows this to be true. It is amazing how people delude themselves about their value in this industry. CV always thought they were better than PC. Onc was better than everyone. Then came rare disease which was super special until ultra rare came along. Buy and bill trumped pharmacy acquired products….. having done all the above, there is marginal difference.

Amgen will likely take folks on Amgens terms, but if you think you are going to be valued over their teams, you are mistaken. The only way a deal of this magnitude works is to cut costs. At least we won’t see Tepezza DTC every five minutes.

haha sales is overweight? 64 reps in the RSAM gbu and what half that in Nsam- total revenue will be close to 1 billion. Amgen will likely big pharma this and actually add reps. Fact.

While it's true that Amgen doesn't value people or employees, they do value reputation and money. Horizon was ranked first in Overall Corporate Reputation by the Rare Disease community. Amgen has a lot to learn from Horizon around rare disease before making any significant cuts. Horizon is already lean with sales and marketing. One way for Amgen to recuperate costs is to raise prices, which they may already have plans to do. Oct is the time frame to complete the deal.

I’m the OP for this last comment. I was only joking and I don’t know how to remove it. We recognize that we need to learn from you and it will take time. Horizon is clearly the leader in rare disease and our hope is to build on that foundation. We don’t really have anyone in sales or marketing to achieve your level of success. We’ve had several failed launches and dissolved several divisions
