This story is no different than most start-ups. Companies run by big headed ego maniacs who thought their shit didnt stink at whatever gigantic company it was that they came from. none of these jack asses have any idea on how to run a company, think that growth is inevitable and assumed and they crash and burn like the stupid fuckers that they are. Dont lay these failures off on JnJ, or MDT, or Stryker, its the douche bags that their arrogance got the best of them.
I wholeheartedly disagree with this. You are speaking like a true JnJ company man or woman who still knows nothing about how to run a company. I think its the douchebags at JnJ whose arrogance got the best of them. Or better yet some of the d-bags still at the helm with Acclarent. Most sales reps here I speak with regularly are looking hard at other opportunities. The dysfunctional marriage of JnJ and the types like RL, RO, LL, MS, are the ones that fucked up this wet dream. This once was a great place to work. Facteau and Fabian may not have had the best personalities but they knew what counted and supported what counted. The sales force...period. No one from Area Manager upward gives a shit about their RM's or sales reps. It is all about self preservation and is sickening.

There is one point here that you're missing, though. The dysfunctional marriage is due to one major issue, and it's THE reason why this has become a fucked up place to work: J&J bought a WAY overvalued company from Bill Facteau and Josh Makower. The promises made to J&J about a "1 Billion $ Company" by 2018 was a total joke. J&J was told that Acclarent was only 10% penetrated into the market! FALSE!!! Acclarent built a house of cards that has grown much too big for the maturing market that Balloon Sinuplasty has become. This is a product that is quickly maturing and hitting it's peak. Growth % measured year-over-year is declining rapidly, and has been since 2009. The fact that J&J did not do it's due diligence when deciding to buy Acclarent absolutely blows me away.
Yes, Acclarent remains the #1 growth division year over year at J&J, but IT'S NO WHERE NEAR WHAT WAS PROMISED TO GARY PRUDEN AND THE BOARD AT J&J.
Who ends up looking bad here ultimately? Facteau and Makower for selling a lemon, and Pruden for buying it without taking a taste first to see how sour it really was!
But for us poor souls at the bottom of the heap, we end up looking bad because we are hit with quotas that are way too high based on the diminished market opportunity. We are given a new comp plan that decelerates our commissions in an attempt to bring the bottom line closer to what Pruden was promised. And in the process, we have to deal with the likes of Salkeld who is steering the S.S. Titanic into another iceberg called "missed Q1". The unfortunate irony here is that these latest measures will only cause more outstanding reps to look elsewhere for work, making the whole shit storm a viscous circle. Before you know it, growth rate will slip under 20%, Pruden will pull the emergency alarm and the salesforce will be cut but 1/3.
...All because of inflated promises. Oh well, it was a fun ride while it lasted, Amigos. But such is life. Move on, or work towards your pension at J&J while making $150k/year. Actually, it's not that bad of an income in this current market. It's no fun to be told "you suck" for not hitting unreasonable quotas and selling enough "nice-to-have" Cyclops scopes in the process, though.
Sure, it was probably a great place to work when the dumb ass so called leaders were burning through venture money and sales were at 20 million. wouldnt we all love to maintain that free load. Fabian, give me a break, clueless USS guy, lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. Got out before he sunk the ship. Acclarent was ruined long before JnJ by people that knew nothing about a awesome specialty. Should have been a Billion dollar business.

What in the hell is going on at Acclarent? Reps quitting left and right, sex crimes and cover-ups, terminations for off-label selling, bribery claims, spousal/stripper abuse, and that's all in Q1! What a purchase J&J! This all sounds like a NY Times Best Seller fictional novel. I guess truth is indeed stranger than fiction.
