Any word on re-org

Another re-org? What could possibly be left to re-org? Why can't we just come up with an organizational structure that works? We have had four non-stop years of restructuring and we are not better off in any way, other than we are cheaper. Our businesses are beginning to realize that expenses were cut and no value was received.

Our value to the business has dwindled to almost nothing What very little morale is left in this place will be sacrificed. Please, please stop.

Can we please get a CIO who has the talent to show her value to JnJ in other ways than cost reductions and reorgs. It is all smoke and mirrors and nobody outside of IT knows enough to realize that.

I have an idea. Lets hold another meeting, possibly on Monday. We will tell everyone, yes we are working on the re-org it's not completed yet and don't worry about it.

Screw that, just come out and get it done and relieve some stress of the employees.

Management sucks, they don't care what they do to the employees. The only thing they care about is their fat bonuses, which we no longer get.

One word “UNBELIVEABLE” another reorg

Harvard Business review should do a case study on this place. The lessons to be learned on how NOT to treat employees and manage change would be invaluable for others.

It would be a hard case study to get into HBR due to how absurd it is...Just how much more dysfunctional can we make J&J IT?

From an ex-US opco/MRC, it looks as if the (constantly reorganizing) IT group is modeled after a Soviet bureaucracy: ministers of supply and ministers of demand proclaiming glorious new centers of excellence and the certainty of meeting the party chairwoman's goal of only spending so much versus NTS! All while accomplishing as close to nothing as possible.

A re-org means that management understands there is an issue. Instead of standing up and taking responsibility they re-org blaming the employees for the problem instead of themselves.

I figure 1 more re-org after this one and MH will be replaced. The shame of it is, the fat lady at top is the one who needs to go.

Not sure MH should take the fall. TEDS has been due for a long time! What have they accomplished... JC - that is a different story, putting ops through this once delivering pink slips then pulling them back and again 1 yr later we are going through it again. That is wrong and she should be gone!

Basically the gist of this re-org is as follows:

-3 Regional Hubs - Raritan, Beerse and Singapore.
-If you are outside of those Country hubs or Cities for that matter, you are as good as gone
-Service Transition to be eliminated and emalgamated into both OPS and TED. Unless you are field staff, ie. Desktop support.
-Most roles to be re-defined and slatting process to occur, similar to what happened in 1st re-org.
-TED to have some responsibility and accountability finally, T3 sections to be created within TED engineering teams to handle T3 support issues
-External vendors ie. HCL, IBM, HP ect.. to be consolidated down to 2 major global vendors
-Creation of 2 Global Service Centers, 1. Brazil (Already there) 2. India Pune (Being put together now), these will have helpdesk staff and application support folks
-Timeline for the above, by end of 2010, with slating of roles being done by end of May this year.

So to summarize, it looks like Queen LC is hanging around for a little while yet and making life at J&J IT a nightmare for those who still keep their jobs through this "Re-org of Re-org of Re-org of Re-org's".... Sorry but how many have we actually had now?? Damn ive lost count!!

OpCo's may save some money in the short term, but services will be degraded and people that do stay in IT can forget about "Work & Life Balance"....

How is all of that line up with the "Credo".....

The lackie director of TED networking should be fired, the guy is useless, I hope the re-org takes care of that.

You hit the nail on the head. Nothing has been accomplished. It is all smoke and mirrors and the Executive Committee falls for it because nobody knows any better. The company will be seriously at risk with these new models.

Why didn't anybody take the fall for the GSC debacle? In any business sector, somebody would have been out of a job because of such a disaster. Our CIO is silicon.

As long as she keeps cutting the budget, senior leadership will not pay any attention. It's only when the business gets seriously affected by service degradation that OpCo Presidents will start bitching to the EC. And now that ITSS basically announced they don'[t have enough resources to do the basic, routine work required by the OCs... it's the beginning of the end of the LC era. I predict 18 more months tops.

That point was reached many months ago. Don't count on the business management. They've already had their Munich, and now give every sign of being willing to give up Poland as well, rather than risking their careers.

The illusion of progress….

The Roman public servant Cajus Petronius, who worked under Caesar (Emperor Nero), wrote the following in his memoirs:

“We worked hard, but every time it all came together, new plans of reorganization were introduced. I learned through life, that we experience every new situation by reorganizing. I also learned what a wonderful tool it is to create the illusion of progress, while just causing chaos inefficiency and demoralization.”
