Todd Putz doesn't like CafePharma?

So the master motivator reads CafePharma and is appalled by the "vile" posts. While I agree that CP is the most positive thing to read, you need to videotape your presentations. Do you have any idea how many times you offended us? Do you have any idea you threatened pressure on us several times? I'm sorry if you find this vile but it's true. And we all know you love honesty, unless it's the honesty you don't like.

I think you meant to say that "CP is not the most positive"...but I get it.

As far as Putz, this guy isn't a leader. There is no positive stage presence and he has no idea of how to motivate people. When he talks to salespeople that upper management is concerned about the ability to increase sales and whether or not people have the ability to do it - that should show everyone that he doesn't have a clue. If he would LISTEN and be OPEN to what people are saying, then we would have never been in this mess that we're in. So Todd, try listening to this since it's gone on for so long - The majority of the sales force is extremely down. And sorry, the Merck culture that you try to slam down everyone's throats isn't working out too well. Oh we know, "be patient". We've been hearing that since you took over. I think we all know that Merck will listen to ideas but they instantly filter everything. It's been very clear that he is trying to do away the Schering Plough mentality and instill the "Merck culture"...and for those who don't like it, too bad. And for those Merck folks that say that SP wasn't doing anything in the market...there were a ton of disruptions the last couple of years...one that Frank Amato apologized for. You won't see any SP people being promoted into the open DM roles...they'll be his Merck cronies to insure policies are being followed. My understanding is he says one thing to the sales force and tells the managers something else...and when you talk to him there is that aura of mistrust. We've lost some good people along the way and he says "no big deal". Retentions are being paid out to a select few and the rest of us may get a 3% raise. This HCV ship is sinking under his leadership. Thankfully, his time should be coming to an end soon since he doesn't stay in one position for very long. Unfortunately, we'll be subject to another Merck "leader" to take over.

Finally, what are you doing on CP Putz if you don't like it? The issue is when people don't feel they are being heard, they come on here to bitch. And although you'll see a lot of immature posts on here...there are A LOT that are right on the money. Maybe your resolution should be to listen.

Nice post but you need to realize something: All Putz knows is Merck...he was born here and he'll die in a Merck casket. His style isn't open to other companies philosophies because all he knows is the Merck way. It's unfortunate for all of us that are SP legacy and/or have experience from other companies. His closest allegiances are with the Merck legacy folks or those SP folks that have given up their voice of reason and will follow for the sake of following. I agree that Merck will fill the DM roles with Merck. We'll continue to see "leaders" like PK that follow policy to the dotted "i".

I just don't think things will change. It's sad cause Todd will blame the salesforce with not having the "ability" but it has nothing to do with that...it's just that he can't imagine being accountable.

One of the above posters quoted Putz as saying "upper management is concerned with this division's ability to increase sales" That might be the most offensive thing I've heard from a stage EVER. Lest Putz remember or at least look at a sales report, this division had close to a 40 share before cox and murphy came in and screwed it all up.

Back to Putz though, I can't believe that upper mgt would look at that speech on Friday and think, "Wow, the most important launch of a drug in a long time is coming up and we have the right guy in charge" If this launch is successful it's NOT because Putz, it'll be because of the same hard working, talented sales force that he criticizes and has no confidence in.

As someone has stated, his last name describes him.

I am going to go out on a limb to assume that this guy has some serious insecurity issues that go back to childhood based on the last name. He could have been a different person if only his stubborn father changed his last name.

Sincerely,

Captain Obvious

First of all its obvious to me that the bashers on this board are a bunch of cowards.
You had your chance to voice your views at the meeting and you cowards kept silent . Then the minute you get home you start posting crap on an anonymous board . You have real credibility . I respect the people who were unhappy that left a lot more than small people bashing here. You probably tried to interview and got turned down and like spoiled little savages that you are you turn around and bite the only hand giving you a meal . I for one am happy to have a job . Merck is not perfect but they have treated me fairly. I thought Todd did a good job .If you are not happy go work some where else . Oh i forgot your not talented enough . You biggest talent is complaining .

Thanks Todd's mini-me for your insights...but coming to TP and voicing any concerns here at Merck is useless. I've seen too many people negatively branded as complainers - not that they weren't solution oriented, but it wasn't a solution that TP would come up with on his own. You evidently don't have a good relationship with your manager or Todd doesn't really talk to you that much because you would know how much he bashes people behind close doors...that's the true coward. Putz's comments were completely unmotivating and showed a true lack of confidence in the salesforce. Next meeting, get your hands out of your pants and pay attention.

And one more thing...you think Todd really would have been honest to us about the retentions that people got? Really? You think he would have said "Well yes, we have given retention packages to a select few of you who we thought may be a flight risk or who got offers from Vertex and we didn't want to lose you. So, we gave them significant salary increases along with $40-60,000 paid out every 6 months for the next 2 years. Each of these people will be sworn to secrecy however. We here at Merck realize that this is a very smart thing to do. We believe that this will get people to buy in what we are trying to accomplish here. Thanks for the question".

Putz is a vocabulary word no one working in pharma can afford to be without. Too bad when an employee cannot take pride, have confidence in, or believe in the work they are doing for their employer. The acting performances just don't inspire and so much of what is going on in sales is nothing more than going through the motions.

This is so true it's not funny. If anyone thinks that TP wants honest feedback because he says it or gives points when someone is honest is sorely mistaken. The above poster is 100% correct. If you give him feedback that he doesn't want to hear, you are branded a complainer and you are done. You will be shown the door in one way or another. I've seen it.

2 things I find very funny

1. That he would admit to reading CP and not expect a thread like this
2. How he gets on here and posts replies to defend himself and not think that we know it's him. Now that's a coward. If you're going to post Todd, don't do it anonymously Coward

Keep licking your own nuts Putz. Nobody else will.

"Oh i forgot your not talented enough . You biggest talent is complaining ."

this is the telltale sign this is Putz. He doesn't believe and of us have talent. Heck, He said so at the meeting.

Personally I like the part of his speech where he told us that "they will put the right amount of anxiety on us" WTF does that mean? Is that a threat?

Hey Putz, without getting too personal, you make good money. How about taking some of it and investing in yourself. You know what I mean?

I just remembered something. Anyone else think it was completely pathetic how he worked his son's wrestling into his crud spewing on Friday? That was the worst, most obvious attempt at bragging about your child while aimlessly trying to make a point.
