Todd Putz doesn't like CafePharma?






I didn't know pharma marketeers (and thats not a typo) "Sold" anything.

It's generally pretty difficult to get rid of people that affect the bottom line - like Sales people.

Marketeers? not so much.

Putz has killed the motivation here with his "brilliant" speech in Denver...very obvious that HE has no confidence. What type of "leader" comes into a National meeting and belittles his salesforce? I along with many others were totally shocked. Putz doesn't like Cafepharma....too bad. It's free speech. Yes, there are some degrading comments that shouldn't be on here, but let's face it, the majority deal with the lack of leadership. His disdain for Schering continues...he believes he needs to bridge everyone over to Merck and do things "the Merck way". Aren't we over that yet? Aren't we suppose to be ALL Merck? Didn't we give up the "legacy" talk awhile ago? Yet, Putz continues his ways. Are you telling me there were NO qualified candidates in this salesforce to get promoted to DM? Yet you HAVE to find a Merck guy with no experience in the Hep C field...oh wait...that's right...he must know all the policy letters by heart. That'll help us win.

Frank...you've admitted some mistakes that you've made along the way...don't let keeping Putz in this position be another mistake added to your list. Please.

Very good post. I haven't read every post here so forgive me if this was said but putz has commented several (too many) times that morale is low. Does he or anyone else in senior mgt understand that the major reason is him? If it is true (and it is) that morale is low throughout the division, what could the reason be? It can only be leadership Todd. do you get that?

Hell, I came from Schering and that place you are so fond of was a rapidly sinking ship. Not sure what you thought was so great about it- management? Rich Murphy? Are you kidding me? TAP crap- remember that? Sales? Yup- the upside down hockey stick... Managed Care? please. Marketing? Chris Varley- enough said.

I seriously doubt that Todd has any control whatsoever around merging our tiny little division into the Merck machine. There are some things I have noticed that seem to be required of everyone here. Yes, it can be annoying and time-wasting, but it could be a lot worse. We could have our detail pieces on that damn tablet and be forced to record calls and maintain ridiculous GIGO (that's garbage in , garbage out)metrics like many of the sales forces. I think somebody has recognized that those would not work in this division.

While there probably are some people in this division who could get promoted to CTM, do you recall anyone getting promoted from rep to DM at Schering? Drawing a blank here... There are hoops to jump through, like it or not. If you want it, figure out the hoops, start jumping, and go for it. Nobody's stopping you.

The problem here is that SP people are now just accepting what is going on. The poster didn't say that SP was going great, but Merck definitely has driven this division to all time lows. If Todd has little control then get rid of him. What's he there for? Good for you not feeling belittled, but it was clear to the majority of the people there that Todd made himself look like a fool on the stage AND in group settings. The hoops here are not necessarily the right hoops to jump through...but its obvious now that CTM management has given up trying to do battle with Todd and I'm seeing that they are just "going with the flow" and not trying to stir anything up. My manager is just not the same...I can tell he's beaten down. Although he has always been a great filter from upper management (even during the Murphy days), I think the dam has broken.

Calm down todd. I'm not sure where you come from, but on what planet, at what job does someone stand up at a meeting or in private and tell someone at your level that you're a failure at your job? This is your problem. You make no sense and go postal when someone doesn't agree with you. I do like how you make your points with venom and hostility though. Very professional.

As for the math, I've also talked to several people and while that is not all 100 reps and 10 mgrs that work here, it's a sampling. If you have any question as to the confidence of the entire field force, check the surveys. It's all about scoreboard. The surveys suck and that's a reflection on you. Sorry for the honesty and facts.
