I love this gig. Been working 2-3 days a week for years. Made millions....I did choose this career, and my family and I have loved it. I Question anyone who claims to do something better, more family friendly, and make more cash. Finally, don’t come on here claiming to be all noble just because you can’t get hired doing a job like this.

serious question...how can you work the 4Ts (Tuesday-Thursday Ten to To) with all the surveillance they have on reps now? I mean there are so many ways they can no where you are when, that it would seem impossible to cheat them on their 40 hours or so now?

    How is it done?

There is no secret sauce to this job it's a show up everyday job period. There is no magic in getting into the offices just go there and schedule a lunch and have a decent trust worthy personality and over time office will like you. Like most of the reps in Pharma they have self over embellished skill sets. It's literally a show up job. The company even tells you what to say anymore how hard or what kinds of brains are even needed to do it in 2020? Zero, Pharma could teach a responsible High School Kid to do the job anymore and certainly a college degree is not warranted anymore.

Another example of why so many people hate this job (from a recent post on the Syneos board regarding their GSK contract):

I feel for everyone here that's stressing, all the best to everyone here.

Just want to go let a few things regarding GSK:
    - The trackers are a GSK Classic. As pointed out, this data is 100% already available. I have no idea why someone would ask you to rewrite existing data? However this is what has been widely used over on the GSK side. It’s busy work.

    - With that said, play the game if you’re staying. Put a lot of effort into all of your trackers. Make them nice and have them ready, fake excitement. No way around this if you plan on staying.

    - Busy work usually means 1. Someone justifying work. 2. That sales are in a crunch and this is the best idea “leadership” has....Look we know this is a joke, but keep yourself in a positive light and role play this stupid game.

    - I don’t think either side is fully comfortable as to what will happen, just do what’s best for you and never stop looking for new roles.

Amen to all of this!! Pharma looks attractive from the outside, but once you start doing the job, it just absolutely sucks! Like this poster said, your coworkers will mainly be complete superficial morons who have never had an original or intelligent thought in their lives. They keep their jobs by being complete kiss-asses to management. Young people just entering pharma, PLEASE TAKE THIS ADVICE: get out now while you still can!! If not, the rest of your career will be spent being kicked around by these a-hole pharma companies who care only about profit. If you want to stay in the health career, do something that has some stability. Get a masters in healthcare administration, get an RN, or get masters in HR. Anything but pharma sales. Trust me on this.

You should have got a Gov't job. I loved this job. It's reps like you that give it a bad name. Someone who does something for 33 years that does not like it has serious problems.

This is true. You have to have an exit plan. Take the money while building a business on the side or learning real career skills in another manner. Pharma doesn’t teach you much other than some nominal disease state knowledge and great catering ordering skills.

Just saw this post on LinkedIn from a former Takeda manager who was let go and decided to start her own business farming out the desperate as 1099 reps. And she makes working for free sound so enticing! This:

CommEx Consulting is looking for talented, experienced, pharmaceutical field leaders who have a true passion for coaching, training, and developing sales professionals to serve as 1099, part-time, Executive Selling Coaches for one of our client/partners. Span of control will be 5-7 highly motivated representatives and interested leaders must commit to approximately 2 field coaching sessions/representative/month. Benefits include working with a gold standard product in the class, a first class global pharma company, and most rewarding, the ability to positively impact the careers of new representatives as they enter into this fulfilling industry where we impact the lives of patients each and every day.
