The OP seems to be staying in the marriage for, as they say "the sake of children." and she stated "divorce is not an option" I know it sounds selfish, but divorce is alway an option.
Nobody wins a medal for staying in a loveless lousy marriage for the children's sake. Trust me, the children will be fine and grow up happy & healthy.
When someone says they are staying for the sake of the children, I think they are really doing it for themselves because they don't want to be a weekend father or the mom stays cause she'll lose some sense of security a marriage brings. Or they are both afraid of the unknown.
Once the children are grown up, you will be too old to find someone else and resentful that you spent the best years of your life with someone you don't love and made you miserable.
Get out of a bad marriage as soon as possible. I know other people will shake their heads and will wag their finger acting high and mighty. But you can't keep suffering in silence or ignore the problems. An affair is fine, but its only temporary relief.
Get out of a bad marriage and live your life!!!!
