Performance Layoffs??

Whoa.....wait a minute! Hold on people! I thought AZ was back in the chips? I though this glorious example of a well run company was back in its "growth" phase! I thought we returned to growth. What happened? Is this what happens when a growing, thriving company is coining money? They lay off reps in an environment where the river is flowing in green? Sounds like the greed factor just kicked in. No doubt Pascal will get a big raise in time for Christmas!!!

Your right on point! This was done to slash expenses for the year. Got to look good for Wall Street! And Shareholders will never hear about the mass firing!

This move is probably more about 2019 than 2018 .Yes it'll save 4 weeks of payroll but that's not a huge number in the grand scheme. I heard it's about 120 sales people. Not sure about HQ.

Maybe the bcise issue is bigger than acknowledged .A cutiec couple oncology trials missed significant endpoints. Probably other stuff .This is probably more about 19.

I'm sorry to hear so many good folks list their jobs in such a shitty manner. Seems to be an annual tradition .

Rosy picture painted as far as turning the corner on sales is a smokescreen. Profits were down again. Increasing sales and decreasing profitability is not a successful long term strategy.
Noticed that projected EPS was 3.30 to 3.40 per share. I don't know about this year, but a couple of years ago Mr. Soriot needed 4.20 to get his full bonus. Just sayin........

  • I lost my job with AZ more than two years ago. I had been through multiple layoffs but my numbers were solid and I was well thought of and hadn't prepared to lose my job. Guess what? Losing my job was a blessing. Despite my age, my double digit years of experience, my 100K+ salary/bonus -- I easily found a better pharma position. I work for a company now that genuinely values its employees. AZ doesn't. When I was at AZ, I honestly didn't recognize that. A friend of mine lost their job yesterday and did not have an inkling a national lay-off was about to happen. I had three friends there that were phenomenal reps and AZ was not willing to give them AN INTERVIEW for an oncology position. My current company promotes from within. They believe the strongest asset they have is their employees. My heart is sad for those that lost their jobs yesterday. My heart is sad for their teammates that now will have more accounts and more challenges - but won't be compensated or acknowledged in any way for that. The ones that were freed yesterday will, ultimately, be alright and will recognize in the very near future that it was, in fact, a blessing.
Totally agree with this post! I was in the same boat with AZ several years ago. Our division was given two months to find another job within AZ or be laid off. Expansions were going on in oncology and my colleagues and I were not even allowed to interview for them! It didn't matter that we were facing unemployment. AZ DOESN'T care about you. They make is seem like its a "great place to work" but in reality, you are completely dispensable at any time they feel like deploying you from your duties. I was also fortunate to find another job in a company that does promote from within and values employees a little better than AZ. Good luck to all of you, better times are ahead!

Pascal's large issue of stock options will mature at the end of this year. He is boosting stock value and cashing in his chips. He doesn't give a shit about us.

Thankfull that I wasn’t laid off and I feel terrible for everyone that was. I think AZ can have a real problem on their hands if this is the route they want to go. I would challenge them on the validity of our data and it’s accuracy. It’s accuracy is limited at best. I can’t tell you how many offices that I have that are writing the hell out of our products and I’m lucky if I see 10% of it. I’ve shown my manager as well and he says you will be credited for it when everything gets washed out. What a joke!! I would have a BIG problem if I was told that I was laid off because of performance.

Every one of them should sue.

Tracking scripts back to the physician has always been challenging. They will tell you that it is all a sample model that is 90% accurate but it is a total lie. RX written in 2017 in Illinois and is now getting refilled in Tenn or Fla is being credited to those reps not the rep who actually sold the physician in Illinois. With baby boomers moving south and taking their RX with them is benefiting people in warmer states. After all, who are the biggest consumer of meds? The elderly who are not likely to retire in Illinois.

So, I wonder how many people expecting to order a new Toyota Matrix will be getting a car from those laid off instead?

200 let go, that leaves 200 cars most of which have low miles because most of the reps let go didn't go to work. these cars will be place with reps closest to them so look to see who close to you was let go.

I got laid off today and I'm still stunned. I have horrible access and my managed care coverage is awful. Farxiga is covered under 40% of the plans in my area and I'm the low performer. How about upper management and the market access team?? It would be interesting how many of the laid off reps work in areas that have limited access and poor insurance coverage. I'm sure it makes up 90% or more. Would love to see how many reps were laid off in the midwest versus other areas. My area got hammered.
